Could this new watch serve as a GPS locator as well? Would there be any geofencing capability?

@nsbohn Fitbit Ionic has built-in GPS and can capture data including route, distance, and pace in your exercise history. It does not have geofencing capabilities.

That built in GPS will function without a connected smartphone right? As in I can leave my phone at home when i run, and still listen to music, track my GPS location, etc. etc. Previous FitBit products only had GPS functionality when connected to a smartphone if I'm not mistaken.
Also, does that mean I could check where my watch is via GPS, when not connected to my smartphone, through an app in the event that it was lost or stolen?

Only partially true, the Fitbit Surge has in-built GPS which allows you to leave your phone at home when you go for a run.

No, you cannot check where your Ionic is as there would be no way for it to respond, the GPS is effectively "receive only".

@nsbohn, the only time the phone app will have any knowledge of the tracker is when it connected with Bluetooth - if the tracker is lost at a distance greater than the capability of Bluetooth, it will not be able to connect to it.
