I'm a little confused. @Joeybagofdonuts

The phone is not used when connecting a headphone to the phones ionic.

Swipe to settings and tap

Swipe up and tap Bluetooth

Tap add Audio Device

Choose the headphones to add and enter the code if asked for. Mine did not, but it usually is 0000

Make sure that the headphones are not connected to another device.

The ionic headphones can connect to two devices.
