Welcome to the forums!
I do not see cross county skiing on the shortcuts for the surge.
I would use workout mode and when synced change it to cross county skiing.
I suspect that's what you were doing with the surge?

Agree that a tracking option would be nice. I tried to track my skiing as walk and then change to Cross Country Skiing, but after a while it jumps back to walk. (Iphone ) I tried to track as workout but then the GPS is not active, even though I have set use GPS in the app. Can this be fixed? I use the Ionic.

Hi,
I skied today ( cross country ) an used the “bike” exercise mode, and I got what I wanted, distance, puls, speed, etc.. ( the gps wasn’t as precise as the other watch I used. But from what I can see at the forum it’s an issue being worked on with the Ionic ) But why cant themmake it possible to edit the exercise afterwords from “bike” to “cross country skiing? When I do it, it just jumps back to “bike” after a few seconds.

Agree. Should add cross country skiing, and rowing. Seems like this would be an easy thing to do.

Hi, i have the Fitbit Ionic, and i want to track my Cross Country skiing, but this is not possible for some reason. I have seen various solutions in the forums, but i must say they really don't do it for me. Can you please explain why it is not possible for you to add cross country skiing? I would also like for it to track downhill skiing/snowboarding.
Plenty other trackers are able to do this, so why not Fitbit?? I am able to track golf, yoga and a bunch of other exercises but not skiing. I really can't understand why.

My guess is that it has something to do with the limited amount of exercises that Smart Track can recognize, of which, Skiing is not one of them.

From what i understand Smart Track is auto recognition of activities, all though that would be great i am only looking to be able to choose cross-country skiing as an exercise instead of having to choose Bike, which is what i have to do now.

Problem is that the ionic is inaccurate doing other activities such as cross country. A 15k work out is only 7k afterwards. A bit strange that the GPS miscalculates that badly. Walking and running works fine.

Hi Rolinds
To allow the Ionic to capture cross country ski data first select walk and complete the cross country ski.
Select the exercise you have competed and then select categorize exercise at the top of the screen.Select walk then categorise a couple of times until a menu appears where cross country skiing can be selected. To keep the data select the 3 dots on the top right hand side of the screen and edited information.
If the data is converted to a bike ride your speed will also be available.
Good luck
