I'm generally a patient guy, but this is getting ridiculous.
This is the second time since I've had my Ionic that it wouldn't sync for a long period of time.
I have read all the troubleshooting guides and threads on syncing in here and have deleted the app multiple times (every day) and re-installed and updated it, a factory reset on the watch itself and nothing seems to work. The watch is now stuck on the 'Get started at fitbit.com/setup' page.
On my phone it says it's paired, but when I try to connect it in the app, it quickly flashes up 'Found it' for about a single second and then comes up 'Couldn't connect. Cancel - Restart Bluetooth'.
I was given my Ionic as a gift so I'd like to resolve it because I know they're not cheap but I can't help but feel I'm wasting my time at this point.
Can anyone help me?

Have you tried removing the Ionic from your account?
Also go into your phones Bluetooth settings and unpair the Ionic from there. Try the set up process again. I don't know if you've already tried this, but it's worth giving a go if you haven't.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, it's already removed from the account and won't reconnect now.
The most frustrating thing is I can bluetooth to so many other devices without a problem and then everyday when I'm trying to connect to my ionic I unpair all those devices and then have to pair them again after getting no success with the fitbit.
Frustrating.

I've had the exact same issue and I spent 5 hours trying to re-connect it to my phone.
I managed to sync it for about 5 minutes and then flashed (very briefly) at the top of the app with an error saying 'sever sync error' and now it refuses to work again.
I've had these issues continuously since I moved from an iPhone to Android.
After numerous factory resets, removing the device (both from my Bluetooth connections and the app), removing the Fitbit app, nothing helps.
I've attempt to reconnect via my iPad and phone nothing worked until 5 hours later my phone magically connected. But now not even that works.
It would be great to have an answer as well.
I hope we both manage to resolve our issues.

Yes, I'd love to see it resolved. I've only had it since April and a piece of kit of that value should last longer than that.
I'm going to go down the route of warranty now, I've dug out my old Blaze (which has a broken screen but still pairs perfectly) and I'm going to use that for the time being.
Problem with the warranty claim though, as mentioned above, I received it as a gift so I don't have a receipt of purchase so hopefully that's not too much of a problem. I'll be doing it from Australia so it's going to be even more wasted time since from what I've read on here I'll be live chatting to the US. Not exactly convenient.
If not having a receipt is a problem, I think I'll be going to a Garmin or a Galaxy.
I actually love the fitbit app and my Blaze served me well, I even have the Aria 2 scales but I've been pretty disappointed with the Ionic. Just too glitchy for my liking.

It's great to see you on the Community @tinybicycles and @JadeeZombiee. I appreciate the details that each of you have mentioned as well for the troubleshooting performed.
I would like you to confirm that you've tried this syncing troubleshooting. Also, double check that you have the latest version of the Fitbit app.
If you've double checked the above and you're still having issues, please check if your Ionic is running the latest firmware version. (If you haven't updated it and you're not seeing the update, check the main thread for more information)
Last but not least, it can be that the syncing issues that you're experiencing can be caused due to having another tracker paired to your account. If you do, please unpair it and continue monitoring the syncing.
Thanks for your input @N8teGee.
Hope this helps! I'll be around if you need further assistance.

Hi, thanks for replying 😁
I have done all the Fitbit suggestions with regards to fixing the syncing issues. Unfortunately none work.
I managed to add the device back last week (after many hours) and it managed to update itself to the latest firmware, my app is also fully up to date.
I have both my ionic and the Aria scales attached to my account.
Surly the scales that sync via WiFi shouldn't effect the Bluetooth of the ionic?
Hopeful you can help us.

Hi,
I appreciate you trying to help, but I think my Ionic is beyond help now.
I have already updated to the latest version of the fitbit app, about 30 times in the last 10 days as that's how many times I've removed it from my phone now...maybe more.
I would love to update my Ionic to the latest firmware but it won't connect at all to my phone anymore, although my Blaze does, as well as my home stereo system, my aria 2, car bluetooth, my bluetooth devices at work and my printer at home. All of which I have to unpair again (then re-pair after) when trying to connect my Ionic without success everyday.
I'm not going to spend anymore time on it.
Tomorrow, I'm going to shop for a new smartwatch...and I'm going to guard the receipt with my life.
I've used fitbits for years, but they lost me at the Ionic.

is your phone running latest android software?
12-06-2018 01:34
12-06-2018 01:34
Yes,it is.
I appreciate you all trying to help but my phone is not the issue, it's definitely the Ionic that's the problem.
Just look at the Ionic front page in this forum, It's a bloodbath!! This product clearly has so many different problems but fitbit are not able to (or unwilling to) fix them. It can't have been tested very thoroughly before they put it in the marketplace.
Just a quick list of issues I've had with it.
1.Syncing problems - All the time, since new, on 2 different phones
2. Notificatiions rarely worked
3. Wouldn't auto track exercise consistently and wouldn't track eliptical trainers at all
4. It once gave me a 100,000+ step day, which screwed up my rewards. I stopped caring about them after that.
5. It's really ugly.
6. Wouldn't support my bank card (One of Australia's 4 big banks) so couldn't use the wallet.
Anyway, I'm not usually one to rant so I'll leave it there.
On Saturday, I bought myself a Samsung Galaxy watch to continue my fitness journey where my old Blaze left off. I'm still getting used to it but it looks great, all the functions seem to work on it (and accurately) and it has spotify (whoever heard of deezer anyway?). The battery life seems to be shorter but it charges fast. So far, it does what they say it's supposed to do whereas Ionic didn't...even from new.
Farewell fitbit, we had a good run but we've grown apart. Good luck everyone else, hope fitbit sorts out these issues for all your sake.

well, I have had an Ionic for a month, and I can honestly say it is fantastic! It syncs perfectly, in fact, it does everything perfectly. Maybe you have a faulty one?
It's definitely not ugly either. It looks lovely. In what way do you consider it ugly? To be honest, as it is your personal opinion why did you actually buy it if you consider it ugly?
Deezer is huge and actually has more music than Spotify, so I have heard of it!
Ionic battery charges super fast, the Samsung software is garbage.

Addy, if you read tiny's earlier post they received the Ionic as a gift.
I've only had my Ionic for 4 days and had to restart it to get it to sync this morning. I'm hoping that is not a trend. Before you ask both the fitbit app is up to date and the Ionic firmware upgraded itself to 27.32.12.19. I upgraded from a Charge 2 HR that never had sync issues for the life I had it.

Weird, all I can say is from my own experience and it works brilliantly and connects perfectly with my Huawei P10. My only complaint is it could do with more things adding to the software as it isn't a true smartwatch. It needs more modules etc. Apart from that, I love it!

Hi AddyRazz,
Thank you for sharing your experience with your Ionic that goes back all of 1 month. I had mine for 8 months so I think mine is a better sample size.
Yes, maybe it was faulty. My very point of trying to find a solution here in the first place.
Have a look at the "Are you satisfied with your Ionic?' thread on this forum, I'm certainly not alone.
I'd never once heard of Deezer before I got my Ionic, no one I've talked to about since has heard of it either. That's nice they have more music and you'd heard of it because of that.
It's ugly but that's just my opinion, it's literally a black square with grey rubber straps. There is a reason you never see a square Rolex.
I recieved it as a gift from a supplier that I work with that has seen me turn my life around with the help of fitbit's trackers. If it hadn't been a gift, I wouldn't have wasted so much time on it. I don't look forward to the moment she notices I'm using a different one.
Thanks for your input.

I thought I'd have another go at this today after letting the battery go fully flat on my Ionic over the wkd.
I gave it the optimum conditions. Charged it fully, right next to my wifi modem and tried to connect it to my Galaxy s9+ (nope), my wife's Iphone8 (also no) and then lastly to my daughters Ipad. Well, low and behold, it connects to the Ipad. It's first successful sync to any device in 14 days.
So, then I unpaired it with the Ipad and try to connect it to my phone again. Hahahaha... no.
Pair again with the Ipad then? hahahaha you guessed it! No!
I don't really care as much now as I have moved to a Galaxy, but it seems like such a waste. I've kept it in excellent condition but it just doesn't work. It's a piece of junk frankly.

Oh well, at least you have given it your best shot!
Mine still working fine on a Hauwai p10 and also on a Samsung S9, it also Syncs fine with Alexa on two devices. But I can only speak for myself.
