Error connecting to Ionic while trying to use Fitbit Pay

OMG, this is sooooo painful!

I'm replying to this post as it relates to the issue of being able to reset/change the pin on the Fitbit Ionic.

Some time ago, I added my Santander credit card to my Fitbit Ionics' wallet and had to set the pin, so that when using the wallet, the pin had to be entered first.  No problem.  I tested this and successfully used my watch to purchase goods using contactless payment.

Because I always have my Android mobile on me, I used this for all my contactless payments, however, today I forgot it.  Never mind, I thought, I can use my Ionic to pay.  No such luck.  When I tried opening the wallet, the Fitbit would not accept the 4 digit pin I entered.  I know EXACTLY what pin I used, so I'm at a loss as to why it won't accept it.

If I try to change the pin I get a very unhelpful error, that explains nothing of any use to me (why do developers insist on using cryptic error messages that are not user friendly?).  "Error connecting to Ionic".  Why?  What is causing this Error?  What do I need to do to resolve it?  My fitbit and mobile app are (currently) communicating perfectly, so this doesn't appear to be a Bluetooth connection issue.

I found this post and initially removed the credit card from my wallet, but it made no difference to my ability to change the pin.  I then tried to "update" the version of fitbit on my mobile, but there doesn't appear to be an update available.  So, I uninstalled the fitbit app and then re-installed it.  Connected to my existing fitbit account and went to Device Lock and it now says "Your Ionic already has a PIN. Please enter the 4 digit PIN to verify".  I enter the PIN I originally set and it fails again with the useless "Error connecting to Ionic" message!

Grrrrrr.

Having scanned my fingerprint and confirmed it is me, why on earth is it necessary to enter the pin on the Ionic, which is the one that I want to change.

Please help me reset the pin on my Ionic so that I can use the wallet.
