Feedback about Ionic firmware

I consider myself pretty savvy with computers and software; I’ve been able to sort software problems. Unfortunately, not so with a simple smart watch like the Ionic.

My watch is a couple of years old’ I don’t use/push the watch to extremes.

It is in pristine condition and the battery is in good condition, it takes a full charge

and lasts for three days plus. The watch has worked perfectly to date, until the current firmware update; it has been updated before without any problems.

I, like many others with a watch just out of warranty, have updated to the current firmware release, and found this to have caused the Ionic to completely malfunction.

It’s no good a Fitbit advisor saying to me “try a two or three button or factory reset” this is spouted time and time again parrot fashion, this is hoped to be a ‘quick fix’

this repetition is all they can offer, it does not fix major issues caused by a glitch in a firmware update

In my own case the installation went through quickly and smoothly and synchronized

with my ‘phone, however, the Ionic became completely erratic. Not being a quitter and having the patience of Job’ I took time out over two days and installed/reinstalled the firmware several times, the Ionic malfunctioned each time.

On the last reinstall my Ionic appeared to have stabilized, it went through a few hours of the day and was fine over night (with a fully charged battery) then suddenly the dreaded blue Fitbit logo appeared. I was able to reset it, but noticed during the period of malfunction the watch had lost three minutes. I was able to sync and restore the correct time. The problem continues with blank screen, delay and blue logo appearing periodically. I have now factory reset it again and going to run down the battery before trying just once more. If that fails I will wait for another firmware update.

I would like to know what Fitbit (who have been taken over by Google) are intending to do about this problem many users suffer from glitchy updates.

In essence, the concept of the Fitbit app’ is very good, I love the styling of my Ionic, but the problems persist in the hardware and the firmware.

Look at the comments on the Fitbit forum, or on the ‘Trustpilot’ consumers review site the reviews are dismal. I am considering adding my own experience to Trustpilot.

Looking back through comments during 2020, the question was raised a number of times, about providing a firmware roll back, it was thought Fitbit would consider taking this on board., or at least the option to roll-back to the previous release.

The only reason this would not be considered doing, is because the company wants the consumer to buy a new watch.

Unless I can resolve my own problem I vow never again to buy another Fitbit product.

I would expect a fitness watch at this high price to last at least until the battery finally gave out.

I would be pleased to get some sensible answers and comments.

I just bought mine and it’s already restarting itself randomly, too. I already regret this purchase, wish I would have just bit the bullet and went with Garmin.
