FitBit Ionic not compatible with new Sony phones?

I have a Sony Xperia XZ1 phone with the latest version of android but it will not connect with my FitBit ionic. However, it does connect with my Sony Xperia Z1 from 2013.. why is the latest FitBit device not compatible with the latest smart phones? And when will they be compatible?

The XZ1 has been out for a year now and still isn't compatible. Im now left on my birthday with a useless device..

Fitbit does not give any indication of which phones they are working on nor give projected dates for compatability. You just have to keep your eye on the Supported Devices List

Do you have a laptop or tablet you could use?

Since this post I have tried to connect my new Ionic with 3 other phones,
all of which are on the 'compatible devices list' and yet none of them
worked. Turns out it's a faulty watch so it is being returned. A £280
device breaking at the first step, sounds promising.
