After having used a surge for less than a year, I switched to the more versatile (and expensive) Ionic. Less than two months later, it won't switch on: the screen is dead. After having gone through multiple forums, this seems to be a common occurrence. I'd have filed for a refund if this was less than 45 days old. Fitbit is losing a faithful customer today.

Mine sprung back to life after following this step posted by another user:
1. - plug your charging cable in a charger(for example your phone charger), but not in the Ionic yet
- hold left btn+right bottom btn and while holding them, plug your charging cable into the Ionic (also try with the all 3 buttons if this doesn't work)
No idea why it worked. And upon powering on it had a 74% charge. But holding down the buttons and THEN plugging it in fixed my issue. Just hope it stays alive.

This did work for me, i.e. the the watch is clearly not 'bricked' but the watch will not charge, no matter how long it is connected to the charger. So when you sync with your phone app, you can see the battery is 'empty'.

@docm83, the Fitbit was able to power back on after using the step I described. No discount or need to return my device.

Mine did the exact same thing and no trouble shooting has worked. I have contacted fitbit a few times and they just keep offering me a percentage off a new fitbit. This was a christmas gift less than 2 years ago.... I am so dissapointed that they dont even offer a service to try and fix the bugs on these things! They are so expensive to just die out like this!

Hope this helps !
I had all the same symptoms & nothing worked. I uninstalled the Ionic from my app. Then tried to find it which I thought would never work because it was unresponsive. It found it & I was able to reinstate the Ionic. I don't think that the charging is not working - it just seemed to have unresponsive screen. I'm not sure that it has full functionality but I also changed the watch face - my wife had this problem with her HR.
Fingers crossed everyone - hope it stays on now !
It did for a while & now it has stopped again - I managed to get it going once but died again !

I came to this forum because I was thinking of going to the Ionic because I am now on my third Charge 3 which has failed. This Charge 3 failed after just a month. But now reading this thread, I think I will decline the 50% off and look at Garmin or something else.
After speaking with techsupport, I was told that basically they really couldn't predict how long a device was going to last. Nice.
Fitbit has lost a customer here.

After going through 2 failed Ionics and the fact that it is clear that Fitbit is doing nothing to "save face" over this known issue with the Ionics (other than a crappy discount on a replacement Ionic), I, too, have moved to Garmin and very pleased with my purchase.

This happens to me all the time....I get a warning that it's about to die.....a warning that is way too late...and then it's DEAD! It's happened so many times...I try to many things...it takes me a good half hour or more to try to revive it...since this is probably about my 4th fitbit, I can confidently say that this wasn't an issue with my previous ones...I'm also looking at returning mine. I've had it.

Seems that this is becoming more common. The last 3 now have mysteriously died a month after the warranty expires, and in the last case for me. I did a update to the ionic and a couple days later it dies with a 90% charge, while watching television. No abuse of any kind to this unit, it looks like the day I bought it. With the exception of the now black screen.
