Fitbit Ionic display temporarily died just after the end of a run

After today’s run, and as I do after every run, I synced my Fitbit Ionic to check my stats. But today, immediately following the sync, the display went blank and wouldn’t come back on. It wasn’t a battery issue — my Ionic was fully charged. The heart sensor was still working. But I couldn’t get the display to come back. I couldn’t bring the display back by pushing the left button, either. I finally tried holding the left button and bottom right button to restart my device. It worked, and my device is now working normally again (knock on wood), but does anyone know what went wrong in the first place? Was it a software glitch? Thanks.

This happened to me recently too. Thanks for the tip on the restart. I'm hoping there are no further issues.

I had something similar today. Got home and checked my Ionic and the display was dead! Ionic almost fully charged and heart rate sensor still working. Performed the 'hold the left and bottom right button' thing and hey presto display back..........strange!

@Superhoop64 Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for sharing the experience you have had with your Ionic's screen. Thanks for trying the restart steps in order to sort this out.

I'm glad the restart steps helped you out to get the display back. Very strange indeed. If this happens again please let me know.

Also, if it keeps happening you could try changing the clock face to another one and check if it keeps happening.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

I have had my ionic for a week and have had to restart it four times. Doesn't appear to be associated with any particular point in the cycle - the display does blank (regardless of charge level) and doesn't respond to any button or screen tap, until I restart it. Then everything's back to normal, until it isn't. Any suggestions?

I had the same issue just now. Brought the Iconic last night, went to do my first run and it cut out at the beginning and wouldn’t turn back on.

have used the reset after reading up in the problems.

am not impressed

I'm a long time FitBit user - I've had my Ionic for 10 months or so and it's worked flawlessly, until the this morning.  I turned my wrist to look at the time, the screen went all wonky, then went black and won't come to life.  The watch still syncs to the phone app and the heart rate monitor still appears to work, as it's flashing green, but no matter how many times I restart the watch, the face won't come back.  Ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Try turning Bluetooth off on your phone and see if the screen comes back on?

I have. I can’t see the screen, but I get the haptic when it turns back on.
Still black screen.

Ok, so I haven't contributed anything to the discussion for several months. My apologies. Not good news. I had a Charge HR, which after persistent problems and discussion with Fitbit support, I was offered a 25% discount on a new one. Far from perfect, given the problems. After much consideration, I decided to go for the Ionic, which worked vey well until several weeks later when it stopped working. After applying all of the suggestions in the community help forums, and a factory reset attempt by FitBit support, I was sent a replacement. It too malfunctioned shortly after I received it. After lengthy discussions and attempts to make it work, I returned both Ionics to FitBit for a full refund. Much as I like the FitBit app, and still use it (manually), I have decided not to get another. I will likely get an Apple watch, when I have gotten over the sticker shock. It does bring to mind the comment offered to me by a retail outlet salesman selling both the Fitbit, the Garmin and other devices as well as the Apple watch, who said that he had finally gone with the Apple after endless returns of his Fitbits. Too bad. I wish it weren't so. My wife is now on her fourth Charge HR or its most recent version (in as many years).
