Over the last 3 week my ionic has shut off twice and restarting twice while I have been running , fitbit has had various charge amounts however has been greater than 30% each time it turns back on, has in anyone else had this issue? I am becoming very frustrated as one of the events happened during a race in which I was using the fitbit for pace. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Since the last firmware update I have had a few occasions where my ionic has only recorded the first kilometer of my runs..
I typical have noticed after 2 or 3 kilometres that it is no longer vibrating at me and after checking the watch see that the exercise app has either exited or device has rebooted.
On several more occasions I have run the exercise app, in preparation for a run, whilst warming up only to see that it obtains GPS but again exits / reboots before I start the run 😞

Looks like we have the same issue on the treadmill: see this forum thread

After reading another thread this seems to be happening to multiple people and they have been advised that a manual reboot helps however I have done this multiple times and the watch continues to either shut down or reboot in the middle of runs
Very frustrating for a $300 watch that is used for fitness tracking

Since the last update, I have had this happen a couple times, including running and treadmill. I have also been having the calibration issue. I would guess this is all because of the update that has had some bugs. It is really irritating.

I have a similar problem. On two occasions, after starting the Exercise app, the fitbit stopped recording and restarted. On two other occasions, again after starting the Exercise app, the Fitbit virtually shutdown, with the green light on the back flashing rapidly. The fitbit had to be force rebooted to get it going again.
This has happened both before and after the current firmware upgrade (27.32.10.15)

Just a quick update as this is still an issue for me when running...
Whilst out running today the watch vibrated at me, after the first kilometre, so I immediately looked at the watch to see what my split time was, and saw that the exercise app was no longer running.
In summary:
* When running it always seems to happen after the first kilometre
* I'm now sure the exercise app is exiting, rather than the watch rebooting
So far I've not determined after what period of time it happens whilst warming up (not recording).

Same issue.
Syncs up with GPS, start to run and about 1-2 miles in the watch either exits exercise mode or hard restarts itself. I am thinking it could be the heat (90+), but surely it couldn't be that???
Anyone else know the remedy? ( I know I never had any of these issues with the Surge).

Having the very same issue, factory reset the watch and it still does it!
Wouldn't mind if it was a cheap watch bit this is meant to be Fitbits flagship fitness watch!

Any resolution on this? I bought mine yesterday evening and it’s shut off on its own 4 times in 24 hours. Probably just going to return it. Not impressed at all. 300 dollars for such a poorly made product!?

Morning sorry for the late reply.
I had an official response yesterday from Fitbit on this matter
"They know about this issue and are trying to resolve it, in the meantime you can log your activities manually"
I've been out running almost every day this week and it still does it (this morning in fact) I went to the gym yesterday for circuit training and in mid workout mode it cut off then.
This watch does not want to work, my advice would be get your money back while you can, I've had mine since Christmas, it was an extremely expensive gift to myself. I am now looking to see if I can get refunded. It's under warranty and the software that runs the device is the issue so in my eyes that's a broken device.
It's a real shame I loved the Surge, going off that I was more than happy to splash out on the Iconic so my disappointment runs deep BUT also feel really aggravated that I'm officially told to just manually log my exercises!
It's like saying you have a motorbike that doesn't work so just pull yourself along with your feet, we pay good money for devices we want it to deliver.
Sorry Fitbit your are about to lose a customer!

To be fair turning off notifications does help but when you are out running it’s still doesn’t fix the issue all together, I get a good run out of it or I don’t, this week it’s been 50-50 been out twice when it’s worked fine and twice when it hasn’t. It’s driving me mad.
This issue needs to be addressed and customers should be reimbursed as its there fault BUT that’s never going to happen.

In one of the other threads on this same topic, one of the posters shared some "voodoo" that works for him and has worked for me ...
The "crash" (exiting the exercise app and going to the watch face) seems to happen at the first auto-lap point (wherever you have it set to ... 0.5 miles, 1.0 miles, 2 minutes, etc.). I have had it happen both on the treadmill and on outside GPS runs.
The "voodoo" is to interact with the display (e.g. swipe twice) after you start the workout, but before you reach your first auto lap point. I used to have this crash about every other run, but since I started doing this a month or so ago, it has not happened (knock on wood).

Hi there
I am suffering exactly the same issue, when doing Bike activity. It just randomly exits the exercise app and drops back to the clock face, thus discarding your exercise. The whole point of this device to to record your fitness activity, so this is incredibly frustrating.
Some people have mentioned it could happen when a notification comes in, but I have not seen that (I tested this purposefully and it didn't trigger the problem)

I have the same problem. I only recently bought the ionic and it constantly shuts off when running meaning I often get to the end of a long run only to find it has only tracked some of, beyond frustrating and I wish I had bought a different tracker now.

I have found turning off Bluetooth whilst out running fixes the issues as it disconnects the watch to my phone, trouble is now I can't use any wireless headphones if I am listening to music.
My watch hasn't failed on me since, so fingers crossed I haven't just jinxed it.
I wish Fitbit would pull their fingers out and fix this bug asap!
