Just adding my voice to the rest of Chorus, Dead Ionic, Contacted Fitbit for warranty replacement (8 months old) However, because I foolishly admitted that I purchased mine from Ebay rather than receiving it as a gift, my warranty claim was refused.

Bad policy and business practices are making it increasingly unlikely I'll be returning.

Would you share What type of garmin? Mine is dead and I'm so disappointed. But i wont be buying fitbit again..

I'm not certain how to proceed. I have to give up on the Ionic after spending $250 and only getting 15 months use, but the large number of identical problems coupled with the way Fitbit is handling this situation, does not make me want to stick with Fitbit.

Maybe the technology is still too new and noone can make a reliable device?

My daughter and her friend have been using Garmin for a couple years and they've been happy with them. They still work. They upgraded earlier this year to a Forerunner 235 and a Vivoactive 3. I'm considering them, or their latest versions. But I'm not sure yet. I've also been researching models from Europe.

Another option is to just go with a chest strap paired to my phone?

Good Luck.

I went and bought a Garmin.  The ecosystem looks fantastic.  Every electronic device may have issues, but the number of similar issues w/ this Ionic and some similar on the versa board has me concerned they have a hardware or software issue. That coupled with the standard, i didnt read your message, but hold 3 buttons to reset and if that doesnt work, send us more money, has driven me away.

Another dead Ionic here. Purchased in Australia February 2018. Tried everything suggested, nothing works. What's is fitbit doing to resolve this?

Thanks in advance

My Garmin is a Vivoactive HR.  It's just been sat in a drawer for the past 12 months.  Charged it up and it still works fine.  It has every feature of the Ionic other than the music storage and the battery usually lasts me about a week.  The only downside is that I prefer the Fitbit software, in terms of how they illustrate different stats.

Cattycakes it would not have mattered. My ionic was purchased in December 2018 from best buy and that told me it was our odd warranty and gave me a coupon.  Thanks for nothing.

Same issue here.

Well, it seems clear that Fitbit does not want to own up to a problem with their Ionic device. That was also the reason why I switched from a Samsung device to a Fitbit in the first place. Samsung didn't want to admit there was a problem with the HR readings, so I had to give up on a Samsung watch and I switched to the Fitbit. Now it seems, that history is repeating itself and now it's Fitbit who can provide answers or admit there is a problem. So, it looks like I must give up on Fitbit and switch to a different smartwatch manufacturer.

Does anyone know if there's a way to download (or otherwise extract) all of the logged data that's been stored on the Fitbit website from my watch. Except, of course, for the past week since the Ionic stopped working. Hopefully, Fitbit recognizes that this data is about me and I have a right to keep that data. It'd be nice is there is a way to download my historical data as a csv file. Has anyone tried to get their data before making the switch away from Fitbit.

Thanks, SciProp.

Funny.  I just left fitbit and bought a Garmin.  I found this earlier.

should allow you to export .csv file

Same issue here. My ionic was working fine - charged normally then suddenly died quickly. Now showing 0% on battery indicator in the middle of the screen. It has been left on charge for 24hrs with no change. Have tried cleaning contacts, low output charger, plugging into laptop, reset buttons all to no avail.

It is now out of warranty, as it was bought in December 2017, and the thought of paying with a discount for another faulty product is ludicrous. Given the number of identical issues, this surely needs a product recall?

I bought mine in October of 2017 and it has worked like a champ... until... mine went completely black yesterday.

I charged it in the morning, wore it to work, referenced the time at 11:00 A.M., and noticed at 7:00 P.M. that the screen would not work.

  1. I got home, plugged it in, waited all night, and no dice... completely dead.
  2. I cleaned the cable and contacts and plugged in again... still nothing.
  3. I traded out my cable for my wife's cable... nothing.
  4. I held down each button individually, simultaneously, and in pairs, in all combinations, waiting 30 seconds each time... nothing.

So... what the heck happened? Why would a completely working item sudden commit suicide?

Yesterday morning before charging, my fitbit Ionic was at 90%.  I had no problems during the day.  Later in the afternoon I found it was not on.  Charging didn't do anything.  I have cleaned the contacts because lately I've had some difficulty getting the charger to connect well enough to charge.  I have been needing to clean regularly, whereas the first year plus some, I didn't need to clean.

I believe those are two separate issues since it was at 90% charge the morning it quit working.

Hope to return to using my Fitbit ... my third over the years.

That is a question that only Fitbit, if anyone, can answer. But since they are not even inspecting the broken units, the MANY broken units, I wouldn't hold my breath!

@MathemAddicts exactly the same scenario as mine
