Hi, everyone! I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.2! (Firmware Version: 32.12.19) At this time, we've released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users.
WHAT'S CHANGED?
Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.
IS THIS UPDATE AVAILABLE TO ME?
This update has only been released to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users. If you have not yet received an update notification and wish to force the update, you can give the watch a FACTORY RESET and then follow steps 1 - 4 below. Please make sure you sync the watch before performing the reset so that all your current data transfer over. Factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. Historical Fitbit data will still be available in the Fitbit App.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.
If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:
Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

I don't think I'll be updating my Ionic especially when I have to do a factory reset to get the firmware. One would think Fitbit could solve this issue or try a new update that alerts users through the app

Okay, now I'm confused. This Firmware release doesn't show up when I'm syncing as a pending update? Even though I've gotten no such notification, if I perform a factory reset, I'll just automatically get the Firmware update? This is not usually the way these updates happen. Is this what you're telling me to do?

Text message notification issue fixed
i finally got my iPhone XR and ionic working
go to settings—general—reset—reset network settings
that also resets Bluetooth system
after that has been done go back to the app and navigate to your notifications and it should prompt you to setup Bluetooth device and it should pair your device again with your phone.
Let me me know if this worked for you.

From what I've been able to gather here, resetting your Ionic is a workaround if you wish to actually get the firmware on your device. At this point, FitBit has not released the firmware to everyone (that is most likely why you haven't received it yet). But, if you truly want to get your hands on the update, Fitbit is providing a way in which you can do it.
Clearly, this update is still not ready for prime time, which is why there are still customers (including me) that have not received the update. I think we can safely say that when the problems with this new release are fixed, you won't need to reset your Ionic to get the update.
That being said, I would wait until Fitbit corrects the problems with the firmware. That's what I'm doing. My Ionic works, and I have no urge to break it with a buggy update.

@MattFitbit Just had the firmware update roll out to me, going to switch over to my Charge 3 and start the update on my Ionic now.

I did the reset and then paired the iPhone through the app notifications, but it still does not work. My guess is that it is an iPhone software issue (XS) since it worked fine with my 7 Plus. I really like the text notifications on the Ionic so I don't have to take the phone out all the time and hope that the issue is figured out soon.

@MattFitbit Firmware now updated took about 30 minutes over the WiFi. My Charge 3 appeared to conflict with the firmware update so I unpaired it and paired my Charge 2 which had no conflicting issues whist attempting the update. So far so good with the OS 2.2

Two things I've learned
1. If I have to hard reset, take off everything only to add everything and nothing works, it's not worth it.
2. If Fitbit can't send out reliable firmware with an easy fix, go with another brand that can

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it but still can’t get texts. 😞. Does anybody else have an iPhone XS and a Ionic that can get text message notifications?

As a relatively new user, I've been following the trials and tribulations of this thread with interest and wondering when the upgrade roll out will reach me.
Yesterday, I noticed that when sync-ing my Ionic with my iPhone 7+ I have a message that an update is available. I don't know how the Fitbit numbering system works for these things, but at the moment, my Ionic settings say I'm on 27.32.10.20. I'm guessing that what I'm being told is available is the update that had given everyone posting on this thread so much grief.
Do I need to do a full reset of the watch before the update that is now showing on my phone as available? Will I lose everything I put on it just six weeks ago?
Any advice gratefully received, in the absence of anything useful from Fitbit themselves.
Tom

Mine updated to 32.12.24 also. I am wanting to see patch notes to see what was changed, but everything I see has to deal with .19

Hi all! Just thought I would jump in here to clear up a few things.
@Tony.r @dblockdotorg Great to see that you were able to get updated without too much hassle! Thanks for confirming.
@tomp2 If you have received the prompt to update your Ionic to OS2.2 then you should not have to factory reset your Ionic. That is only a workaround for users who wish to opt-in to the rollout.
@taz4352 OS2.2 has not been rolled out to 100% users, so that is why you are not seeing the prompt to update. For those who would like to opt-in, you have the option of factory resetting your Ionic to force the update.
@VinceL For anyone who might be having issues with their notifications, I can recommend performing each of the steps detailed in this article.
@Spittoon This release is part of an effort to test a new firmware update process. For more information about this release, see the Fitbit OS 2.2 section in our help article.
@Roe623 @Khaled-TN Thanks for the assistance!
