Fitbit OS 2.2 - Ionic Firmware Release (32.12.19)

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi, everyone! I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.2! (Firmware Version: 32.12.19) At this time, we've released Fitbit OS 2.2 to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users.

WHAT'S CHANGED?

Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.

IS THIS UPDATE AVAILABLE TO ME?

This update has only been released to a small group of Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa users. If you have not yet received an update notification and wish to force the update, you can give the watch a FACTORY RESET and then follow steps 1 - 4 below. Please make sure you sync the watch before performing the reset so that all your current data transfer over. Factory resetting your device clears all data from the watch including music, Fitbit Pay information, and apps. Historical Fitbit data will still be available in the Fitbit App.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:

  1. Restart the watch.
  2. "Remove" the watch from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

I'll second that sequence. I'm not sure that you want to remove the app from your phone though. So here is a suggested sequence  for you to try and you can try after each step or go all the way.

1. Hard reset the watch if you ended up in unstable state. Press 10s or so on the left and right buttons together. After the reset, a short press on the left button will reboot the device.

2. Remove the device from the app

3. Remove the BT connection on the phone.

4. And start the process of setting up a new device on your app. You can try to load the update with WiFi or BT. Try WiFi close to the router to ensure solid connections.

If the above don't work repeat the 1..4 steps and add the 5th step.

5. Reset the device to factory setting. You do that by running the setup app on the device, go to the about entry and press on the "Factory Reset"

This should do that. Let me know if it worked for you.

Good luck.

I think I finally got it to work.

What I did was delete ionic from my profile. Forgot Bluetooth connection on my phone. Reset ionic with buttons.

Reset - up device as if new

Updated over Bluetooth.

It failed once.

I reset it and it started updating automatically. Completed and now I can open exercise app again.

I've been trying to update my Ionic for over three days with no success. I was able to get to settings in hopes of clicking on factory settings which I did and now my Ionic does not work at all! They face has a big red X in a red circle, rebooting does nothing! Beyond frustrated!

Hey everyone! I'm sorry to hear you're all having some trouble completing the firmware update on your Ionic watches. Thanks for troubleshooting and providing your experience here on this thread.

Sounds like many of you have been successful by performing a factory resetI definitely recommend this option after you have tried everything in this article first: Why can't I update my Fitbit device? Plus make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app on your phone.

If you decide to try a factory reset, make sure to sync the watch first so all your current data transfer over. After the watch has been removed from your account, make sure to remove Ionic as a device in your Bluetooth settings. After, set it up again to your Fitbit account as if setting up a new watch.

I hope this helps! If not, let me know so I can connect you with our Customer Support team or you can reach out if you have exhausted all these options.

For those still waiting for the update, thanks for your patience! We will continue rolling out this firmware later this week and I'll keep you all informed in this thread. Thank you!

Did you try to hard reboot it. I have the step in my post. It should recover it to find the clock face.

Updated my ionic at the weekend and my payment card seems to have disappeared. Seems to be syncing normally but time is now an hour fast. Not much use if it doesn’t even tell the correct time!

Completed the factory reset to install the update twice, each of which required re-uploading my music. After both times I completed that long, painful process, my Music app wouldn't load. The loading screen appears when I select the app, but then it goes back to my watch face.

This is my third Ionic in less than one year, Fitbit. I can't tell if this new issue is because of a buggy update (that seemed to change nothing for the better) or because your customer service only sends cosmetically-fixed refurbs in response to warranty requests.

I don't know how they do the update, but the mobile app is suspect ... if you could download the updated firmware as a file and do it offline, via a PC and wi-fi, that may be a bit more reliable.. the mobile app is less than perfect, and could be a part of the problem... but whatever is broken, FitBit don't seem to want to or know how to fix it... let alone acknowledge the problem exists... and at their end... blaming users instead...

Is there any resolution forthcoming?  I am having all of the same issues that everyone else is having, along with unsuccessful multi-nour sessions with tech support.   this is a 300 dollar paperweight.

I was able to install using Bluetooth, while the Ionic was charging.  Just thought i’d Suggest it.

ps- I am only posting this once, so I do not want to be chastised by a Fitbit person for double posting because I am not doing that!

The new firmware update has been so incredibly frustrating. I was forced into updating my watch/ app as my exercise control and clock face were not working. I have been trying to update for 5 days now. Steady wifi and bluetooth have been present the entire time. One attempt was overnight and it still stalled out halfway through. I've spent 3 hours this morning with tech support. Still no luck and I need to move on with my day.

I feel like a firmware update shouldn't be this complicated. The amount of times I've restarted the watch, my phone, removed the watch from my phone, restarted the watch as a replacement is incredibly inconvenient. Especially because I purchased the ionic for its convenience. Fitbit tech- please figure this out!

The update has really messed up my Ionic.  I've been trying for days to indtins it but it has failed earlier each time.  I've tried all of the suggestions on the various links.  It no longer will connect to WiFi.  None of the apps work any more.  Touching snyanyth other than the clock screen crashes the clock.  Only one clock now seems to work.  Pretty unhappy as all was working well before.  I can't even do a factory reset as the setting option doesn't work.  Can I send it somewhere for repair?

In my case no, I didn't lose anything that was already logged into my account before I reset my watch

I cannot see that this has helped me. I have had problems with syncing mu Ionic from day one, You replaced it but after one day the syncing problem started again.

All of the replies to my requests for help are implying that the problem rests with my Samsung J3, however I do not accept this as it occasionally syncs and also I added my wife's, Charge 2 and that works correctly. (it has now been removed).

The problem seems to be with the bluetooth. It now tells me that it is synced....but when I look on the bluetooth connections, it is not there (again, I can see the Charge 2 but not my Ionic).

It now seems to be syncing, but it was yesterday, and this morning it did not sync until after I reloaded the app onto my phone.
