Fitbit Update 1/10/19:
Hi all! Big thanks to everyone for your feedback on the release of Fitbit OS 3.0!
Since the majority of users have now updated to 3.0, I will be closing this thread from further comments to help keep our community discussions on-topic.
If you are experiencing an issue outside of the firmware update process, I invite you to start a new thread on this forum and we will be happy to assist you there. Thanks again and happy stepping!
Fitbit Update 12/26:
Hey, everyone! We're aware that some of you may have noticed a fast battery drain on your Ionic watches after completing this firmware update. Our team is investigating the root cause of this issue and whether it was caused by this update or other factors are involved.
In the meantime, if you're experiencing this problem please try a restart on the device then consider switching to a Fitbit made clock face! Many 3rd party clockfaces (especially those with animations) are known to use up more battery. If you try this out and are still seeing a fast battery drain, we can connect you with Customer Support for next steps or you can reach out to them and create a case.
We look forward to getting you all back on track!
Fitbit Update 12/22:
We've released Fitbit OS 3.0 out to 100% of users. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app (2.84) before downloading the newest firmware.
We're excited for you all to have the newest Fitbit OS, but please let us know if you have any questions about this update. Happy Holidays, everyone!
Hi, everyone!
I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 3.0! (Firmware Version: 27.33.1.30)
We've started to roll out this update to 20% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it soon. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
WHAT'S CHANGED?
Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.
If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:
If anyone isn't seeing the Today app after updating, please try the following:
1. Make sure you're running the newest version of the Fitbit app.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi in the Fitbit app, plug your Ionic into the charger and let it sit. This will automatically update the Today app.
Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

Another day another run and no GPS issues!!! I'm so happy as before the update I could not go on a single run over 5k where the GPS did not crap out on me - lose the satellites and be unable to re-connect. Battery life is just as good as before the update, no problems at all here.

MY new iconic will not load the update.
Your suggestion to forget Bluetooth, restart watch is fine but how do you remove the Iconic from the phone app (can not find this anywhere) also how do you restart watch?

@iconic_user_101 to restart hold for a few seconds left and right-bottom buttons together until you see Fitbit startup logo.

Thanks, I then deleted my app on my phone and reload.
I then removed the device from the website dashboard.
My phone app still shows the iconic.

“I'm so happy as before the update I could not go on a single run over 5k where the GPS did not crap out on me - lose the satellites and be unable to re-connect.”
Hmm? Not really sure what you are so happy about.
The Ionic is supposed to have GPS that works. It should not crap out on you. But this sort of thing is what this device does. You are happy and elated when it actually works. Just an observation -> as this occurs for me as well. Very sure you are happy. Just that you should have not been unhappy in the first place. That is the Fitbit failing since using this for the past month. Have helped many get their Ionic going again. But is an endless stream of Ionic errors and crapping out.
Fitbit essentially needs to acknowledge this -> and simply decide to make products that work properly more like Garmin or Apple.

Right now I did another factory reset. Removed the Ionic from the app. Added the Ionic back to the app. Connected Via Bluetooth after entering the code from the watch. Then connected via wi-fi and proceeded to perform the OS 3.0 update. Been sitting on the install screen for an hour with the Fitbit logo flashing on the screen. Actually not sure what I else I can do to make this thing work.

If the blue Fitbit logo does not fill in with a solid blue bar -> your watch is not downloading or updating anything. So you are in for a very long wait unfortunately.
Once it did for me the logo actually flashed green to confirm all was done. Still tho pop ups indicated it was not done. But just ignore them. Restart and re-sync at that point and 3.0 was fully in. Total time start to finish was 10 minutes for me.
Call Tech Support at the number linked below and see if they can help. 30% of the time their suggestions have helped me. So you might luck out.

To remove your Ionic from the phone app click on Ionic in the upper right hand corner of the app than when the Ionic properties page appears there will be a little garbage can in the upper right hand corner click it and it will delete the Ionic than you will have to set up a new device.

Logged water on Ionic twice today. Just checked the Fitbit app and both entries had been synched into the app. Had never logged water before as was inconvient to do with the app. Ability to do right on watch is great! Thanks fitFit.

After about 5 failed attempts to update and get fitbit ionic working at homme i called fitbit tech support and we tried another 4 or 5 times and failed. They told me to return the fit bit or exchange it for a new one.

I am one of the ones who hasn't had any issues with the update. I wonder if there are some apps and/or watch faces that are causing problems for some users.

Battery issues?? How about yall "investigate" the sync issues and the failing to update firmware issues??? Also, how many Fitbit employees are posting here that are not "moderators"? A few posters are all rainbows and unicorns, always bragging about their device like its offsetting all of the other REAL issues..

@AriesRach @fumbling81 @Ladyvalk For anyone who might be having trouble launching their Today App, please follow the steps below:
Make sure you're running the newest version of the Fitbit app.
Connect to Wi-Fi in the Fitbit app, plug your Ionic into the charger and let it sit. This will automatically update the Today app.
Is there a specific time I need to let it sit for? After my first update, I let it sit for maybe 40minutes while it updated my music playlist, then it showed. I have since reset and updated a second time, and Im back to not getting any of the extra Today features. Ive had it on a charger for maybe 30minutes and that hasn't been enough. Is there a reason why its not working consistently? I'am on the latest Windows Phone App. It updated my music via wifi, so I assumed it was connected. Do I have to actually go into the wifi settings and manually connect then put on charger, or put in charger and then goto wifi settings in app and connect, do I have to do this each time I want to see updated information?

Will this update also correct the syncing issues for the ionic?

I appreciate your frustration, I'm just thrilled that the update appears to have solved my watch's GPS issues. I've made critical comments in the past here on these boards so it is only fair that I comment when things are working well too. I have a Garmin Fenix watch as well that I started using during my frustration but i prefer the Fitbit ecosystem with much better sleep tracking etc.

Hi,
I initially faced some problem and could resolve it somehow. So, just wanted to share the experience.
While updating, I made sure all my bluetooth devices are offline, that includes laptops too (remember for most of laptops wifi button toggles on/off bluetooth too). Double check that only watch and phone are with bluetooth on.
Make sure you have a good home wifi connection. If not, try PC app for Fitbit and update - again on home wifi.
After update - my watch failed to connect to phone. So, I deleted watch from app, multiple tries with no success. So, I connected it with PC app - and it worked! But, that's not very helpful for continuous sync. To solve that, I tried many ways but only following could work - confirmed that there is nothing called Ionic in Bluetooth history of phone (android pie), waited for a minute or so to scan and connected the Ionic directly from Bluetooth panel of the phone. Finally, the Fitbit app was able to recognize the Ionic watch.
See, if this works for you. Just made sure you have only 2 bluetooth devices on (phone or PC and Watch) and you have a stable home wifi.
