Fitbit Update 1/10/19:

Hi all! Big thanks to everyone for your feedback on the release of Fitbit OS 3.0!

Since the majority of users have now updated to 3.0, I will be closing this thread from further comments to help keep our community discussions on-topic.

If you are experiencing an issue outside of the firmware update process, I invite you to start a new thread on this forum and we will be happy to assist you there. Thanks again and happy stepping!

Fitbit Update 12/26:

Hey, everyone! We're aware that some of you may have noticed a fast battery drain on your Ionic watches after completing this firmware update. Our team is investigating the root cause of this issue and whether it was caused by this update or other factors are involved.

In the meantime, if you're experiencing this problem please try a restart on the device then consider switching to a Fitbit made clock face! Many 3rd party clockfaces (especially those with animations) are known to use up more battery. If you try this out and are still seeing a fast battery drain, we can connect you with Customer Support for next steps or you can reach out to them and create a case.

We look forward to getting you all back on track!

Fitbit Update 12/22:

We've released Fitbit OS 3.0 out to 100% of users. Please make sure you have the latest version of the Fitbit app (2.84) before downloading the newest firmware.

We're excited for you all to have the newest Fitbit OS, but please let us know if you have any questions about this update. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Hi, everyone!

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 3.0! (Firmware Version: 27.33.1.30)

We've started to roll out this update to 20% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it soon. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

WHAT'S CHANGED?

Please check out this help article to see what's new in this update.

HOW DO I UPDATE?

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here. We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.

If you run into trouble updating your Ionic, please follow these steps:

  1. Restart the watch.
  2. "Remove" the watch from your account inside of the Fitbit app.
  3. "Forget" the watch from your phone's Bluetooth settings (along with any other Fitbit devices paired to your phone)
  4. Try the update again.

If anyone isn't seeing the Today app after updating, please try the following:

1. Make sure you're running the newest version of the Fitbit app.

2. Connect to Wi-Fi in the Fitbit app, plug your Ionic into the charger and let it sit. This will automatically update the Today app.

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have questions, please let me know in this thread!

I spent 3 hours yesterday and 2 hours today doing the "soft" / 2 finger reboot, "hard" / "3 finger" reset, unpair, uninstall, reboot, reinstall, repair dance and was still left with an Ionic that only displayed the Fitbit logo.

Enough.  We took the device back to BestBuy for a refund and will eventually purchase an Apple Watch v3.  The BestBuy employee commented that a lot of Ionic's they sold for Christmas are being returned.

Fitbit, you've lost a customer for life.

Yep appreciate your position.  Either get a replacement or get a refund.  There should be “zero tolerance” for defective products sold to unsuspecting customers.  Maybe the brand will finally understand that users will not tolerate being beta testers for them while their devices brick after firmware updates.  As well maybe the brand will understand censoring and taking down posts criticizing just creates mistrust.  But then again maybe not.

Really there is no need to suffer in Frustration - simply call Tech Support at 877-623-4997 and get your Ionic replaced right now while you can
Many have followed this straightforward advice and now have a replacement Ionic - we all should have “zero tolerance” for any defective Ionic

I updated my Ionic to 3.0 tonight, and now I wish I'd checked this forum before doing so as my Ionic will no longer sync with my phone.

Per the instructions in the original post, I restarted the watch, removed the ionic from my account inside the app, and forgot my ionic bluetooth settings on my phone.  I then attempted to re-add the Ionic back to my account from inside the app - but have been unable to do so as the Ionic can no longer be seen.  I've charged the Ionic and have it a few inches from my phone when it's searching, but it never finds it so the app just keeps prompting me with the "Not working?" dialog.  I've also rebooted my phone and have ensured I'm running the latest fitbit app from the google play store.  ugg.  This thing has been working flawlessly for months, but the 3.0 update seems to have screwed it up.

Hi @DavideFitbit,

yes this is regarding Ionic's today section. On the Settings topic write that i can choose up to 7 stats to easly track with Fitbit Today, but for me only 3 are listed - Core Stats, Hourly Steps and Heart Rate

I have tried few things without success:

- connect Ionic to WiFi and charge the watch on the same time for more that 2 hours

- restarted Ionic couple of times

- Unmark all listed 3 stats - Core Stats, Hourly Steps and Heart Rate and reactivate it again on the next day ( someone suggested that).

Now also the connection to Strava has been broken and cannot connect Ionic with my Strava account, because when i click on Strava Login from phone app nothing is happened.

Ionic, ver. 27.33.1.30 ( from Setting - About from the Ionic' menu)/Ionic version from the phone - 33.1.30 - FitBit app ver. 2.39.1779 (60070) on Windows mobile /MS Lumia 950 - Fitbit Today app ver. 33.1.30.c from Dec 20, 2018

just switched from garmin 645 to ionic - when is release for use of pulse ox sensors for deeper sleep readings, or whatever is currently in use on charge 3?

Best Answer

@Jpjehu001 there is no disclosed release date. Supposedly they are using the sensor in the current sleep beta (https://www.fitbit.com/labs/sleep-score) which is currently full. But there are also allowed devices for that beta that do not include the sensor, (And there is no call-out in the data available whether the sensor was used, or what data it detected, if in fact it is being used).

Good luck with the Ionic, it seems to short distance on GPS running activities (since it uses a combination of stride length/steps and GPS)

great - thanks!  This helps to hear rather than sifting through the forums.  was it released on the charge 3?  Also - is it going to be the same functionality as the charge 3?  I don't know why I thought the 3 was starting with it available.

Best Answer

@Jpjehu001 the Charge 3 is in the same state as the Ionic/Versa. The sensor is there, but if it is enabled, any data it is collecting has not yet been exposed to users.

I updated my Ionic and all that has happened is the Fitbit logo is on the screen and keeps flashing . I’ve tried to reset (left button and bottom right) and I’ve tried factory reset ( all three buttons). But the screen keeps flashing the Fitbit logo. My phone and computer can’t even find the ionic on Bluetooth now. Do I just wait for battery to drain and hope for the best ?

The firmware does not know what to do as its corrupted. Fitbit support will give you your options for acquiring a new one.

Same with mine. My Ionic started acting up last Sunday after the update to 3.0. Syncing issues. I am a tech guy so I did manage to reset it, had the blinking Fitbit logo issue, got past that. 6-8 hours later got my Ionic running again to experience the same Bluetooth syncing issues again.

If I turn my Ionic off for 30 minutes and re-add it to the Fitbit app, Bluetooth reappears. Phone works for about 60 minutes and then the clock starts lagging. That is my sign that there is a Bluetooth syncing issue. Within one hour my app stops detecting my Ionic then intermittently reconnects.

Not a hardware issue, I do not think my Ionic is defective in any way since it worked with the older version of FitBitOS. Would love to be able to revert back to the last version but the Fitbit app will install it automatically when re-adding the watch. No way around it.

Fitbit needs to update the fix to Bluetooth (wifi is intermittent as well) soon or revert everyone back to the older version.

@YojanaFitbit

Gone through every post here at Fitbit and over at OnePlus. I have done two hard resets and countless number of soft reboots. For me now, I have to shutdown my Fitbit for about 30-45 minutes and then re-add it to my FitBit app. Unfortunately, about one hour later my Ionic stops syncing again and eventually cannot find the tracker.

I am using a OnePlus 6T. As with many other users here and at OnePlus, the issue started with the latest update of FitBit OS 3.0. My Ionic ran flawlessly since late August when I got my Fitbit.

Anyway we can revert back to an older version of Fitbit?
