Fitbit Update: 10/9
Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.2, available for Ionic (Firmware Version: 27.68.9.15).
We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED
This release includes bug fixes and improvements.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.
If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.
We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

I updated my ionic and the download was fine but during installation I got an error message whether to retry or use bluetooth. I chose retry but nothing happened so I rebooted my phone and ionic to try the update again but I cannot find the update link.
However, when I checked the firmware version, I got 27.68.9.15 which is the latest version to date. How can I tell if my update was a total success? The watch seems to be working but have not checked all features.

Updated yesterday. Straight from the latest 3.x release (without the 4.0.1).
Downloaded at about 150kb through wifi, (router showed that the ionic was connected). The whole procedure took about 15 minutes.
After a reboot, i've got a short introduction. About 5 minutes later it told me that it would like to recalibrate so i've connected the carger and a few minutes later it did show a green checkmark -> worked as well.
There are pretty cool new features. Why don't you mention them at your "What's new and fixed" page?
So what's my experience? (might be android specific)
thats quite something. don't know if some of that (especially in the settings section) was released earlier, but the rest is pretty cool.
Many thanks for developing new features and fixing bugs, especially for a device older than 6 months (sadly thats not standard in our modern world). 💖💖💖
The only annoyances: your communication politics, especially regarding the SPO2 sensor. 😒

Thanks for pointing out the sleep mode schedule option - that is so useful!
I thought the sleep mode quick toggle was good, but that is even better!
Nice addition FitBit 🙂

I had the upgrade banner come up on my app this morning. The last update bricked my 3 months old Ionic, I got a free replacement.
I'm literally scared to update this time. I'm traveling in Europe for business and don't want to be without a watch.
Fitbit, you gotta work out a way to update without killing the device. Maybe you need to poach some Apple or Google developers?

This update seems to be bricking a large number of Ionic devices, including mine. Perhaps it should be un-released until you work this out.
I'll be expecting a full replacement.
Update: After going through the typical routine in friendly form with customer service, a supervisor did approve replacement out of warranty.
They will send an email with a choice of 50% off a new device or full replacement of the Ionic, which I chose.
I'd rate this good customer service, although it'll take a good 30 minutes out of your day.

Another smooth WiFi update, only 7 minutes and everything is working. Syncing is normal and responsive..

Ok... so my Ionic has updated.
So am I right in thinking that everytime I swipe down to see a notification, I get that menu showing me the music player controls (never used as getting music on these devices is worse than having teeth pulled), a wallet that only one bank in the UK supports, and then 4 quick settings that I never use?
Please tell me I can disable this menu, otherwise when the black screen of death shows again, I won't be seeking a replacement.

This update messaged my clock face up, don't know what to do....
I don't want to factory reset everything as it takes so much time!

Try choosing another clock-face and then go back to the other one. That might work.

Already tried doing that and re-starting the Ionic, no luck.
I did the update via Bluetooth

Switchr app stopped working after the update. 😞

And still no SO2 sensor activation
Still at least we got a sleep score, something so many people WERE asking for
Come on Fitbit start listening to what you customers ask for. The O2 sensor has now been available on your devices and still no use for it. All the excuses about licensing and FDA approval are mute given Garmin's ability to have Thiers active

Same exact thoughts, horrible decision to add that to the notification section. Those features should have remained for the physical left button, or even better -- display those controls when a user "swipes right" from the clock face home screen (a feature request that has been made in the past).
C'mon Fitbit! Did you gather feedback from anyone else besides your developers who thought this was a great idea?

I tried to do the update. it did not work. followed all steps for troubleshooting as listed on your site. still did not work and in fact has made it worse because the troubleshooting guided me to delete the ionic from my account. now the ionic will not pair to my desktop, phone, or tablet. it does try to connect by recognizing the 4 digit code but when i try to pair i now receive 'something went wrong..." message. each time i try a fitbit troubleshooting method my symptoms become worse.

<SOLVED>
From the new drop down menu I found sleep was enabled which disabled the items below.
Hi
Since the update on my Ionic yesterday (Version 27.68.9.15) I am unable to change some of the settings including Brightness, Do Not Disturb, and Screen Wake. These items are greyed out and you cannot select them to change. Brightness is stuck on Dim. Screen wake is stuck on Manual so I cannot just twist wrist and have to press the button. Not very convenient. Hope there will be an update to fix or am I just missing something?
Thanks
Dave

Hi,
You release a new firmware version and say the following "This release includes bug fixes and improvements" As far as I am concerned they are not release notes. What are the bug fixes and improvements. How can I make a decision as to whether to take this upgrade or not based on 7 words. Last time I ended up with a useless ionic that whilst fully charged would not power up and had to be replaced, surely you should inform customers what the fixes and improvements are so they can make a choice based on some facts not promises.

Just upgraded. Whole process took about 15 minutes. No issues at all!
