Fitbit Update: 10/9
Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.2, available for Ionic (Firmware Version: 27.68.9.15).
We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED
This release includes bug fixes and improvements.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.
If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.
We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Same thing happened to me. And it didn’t update. I got it to work again by holding all 3 buttons until the logo appears. Then, let go of the bottom right button while continuing to press the upper right and left buttons until it vibrates. Takes a while. On vibrate, let go of all buttons. I then had to remove the ionic from my app, do a factory reset, remove and re-add the app, then set up the ionic in the app again. That was just to get it to work. As I said, it still won’t update but I’ll tackle that later. It took me two hours just to get it working again.

Fitbit firmware update is never easy
Connection has always been an issue
These issues have been on fitbit Surge and ionic, why? Have I said many times that I would not buy fitbit anymore?
Wonder how china made mi band has never failed on connection and firmware update.

I am unbelievably disappointed with Fitbit how they have handle my situation at this point . It looks like the firmware issue is not an isolated problem .
after my upgrade my watch no longer works

I feel the same way. I'm looking for a Garmin watch now. I won't risk an update until I know for sure what they've done to our watch screen. I'm guessing they're making it harder to find useful data and will be pushing their unwanted premium "service". I was on here trying to learn what the actual screens look like after the update since I don't want to change it without knowing what the new watch menus will look like. Hoping someone posts a bunch of screen grabs or a vid. Very unhappy with Fitbit company for the last few months.

I was fully prepared for this update to be a disaster and had picked out my Apple Watch, but the Update went through and the Ionic is running along without a hitch. It wasn’t a smooth process as the App on the phone just sat there spinning for a half hour and the Ionic just sat there. I said oh well and just restarted it to be safe. Then it updated after the restart and has been running since. Had to reenter my Sbucks card and the app came back. Wallet didn’t work immediately, but corrected itself and is working fine. Strangest update process I’ve been through I have to say. I feel bad for all those here that haven’t been as fortunate. Not seeing much difference, but I was happy with it before. Curious about the spo2 status...otherwise meh.

I had the same result !!
fitbkt must remedy this before they lose customers . I am a runner and can’t imagine running with my ionic but now if they correct this I am look g else where !!!
i can’t see them now replacing customer watch if their firmware was the direct cause . Warranty or with warranty !!

Below is an exchange that is going nowhere. I've had the Ionic for less than 2 years. It asked me to update the software and never turned on since. I've done all the factory reboot etc...below is my last exchange
Hello again,

My update took 10-15 minutes tops.
WiFi didn't work, which is completely unsurprising.
Bluetooth worked immediately and flawlessly.
The watch seems to pick up notifications more quickly which is fantastic because I had notification issues prior.
However, it has completely, totally and utterly tanked my battery life. I used to get about 2 days before it would hit the warning point but with the same settings, my Ionic just dropped over 40% in 9 hours when I was asleep.
As I was one of the earliest Ionic adopters, I'm out of my 2 year warranty period too so I'm unlikely to receive any positive response from FitBit Support.

Got the update notification yesterday evening. Today I did the update. Everything went smooth. Thx Fitbit.
Before doing the update I enabled WLAN through the app and started the update. It took around 15 minutes. After the update I had to do the tutorials again and feared all data would be wiped. But it was not the case. Puhhh.
I spotted some new features like the fast settings menu which can be opened with a down slide and press on the right button in der notification bar. Nice. I hope Fitbit optimized the GPS functionality as well. With FitbitOS 3 GPS got more unreliable.
Tomorrow I will run a half marathon. It will be a good test for the new OS :-).
BTW FitbitPay works without problems. I had not to add my card again. Everythink like before on FitbitOS 3.

I had no problems with my Surge. The ionic is far more sensitive. It depends on the wifi. I once had a tp-link wifi and it won't work with the ionic. Now I changed the wifi hardware and it works without a problem. Also the new app works far more better in reference to connectivity like the old one.

My wife uses Garmin. She never experienced update problems. But connectivity problems occur there as well. The app is ugly and the watch OS also. But the new Garmins have Amazon Music support. I want it also on my Ionic!
I like Fitbit best. But the quality of their devices is subpar. I now own my 6th Ionic. One sold, one lost, thwo died from water damage, one was a doa device. But I hope they learn and give us a good Ionic successor.
