Fitbit Update: 10/9
Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.2, available for Ionic (Firmware Version: 27.68.9.15).
We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED
This release includes bug fixes and improvements.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.
If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.
We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

Hey everyone!
Sorry for the delayed reply. I truly appreciate the time you're taking to post your feedback regarding the firmware update, these comments help us to monitor this thread and continue assisting you.
Remember that it's not mandatory to update your Ionic's firmware because this is a progressive rollout. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
Once you update your Fitbit Ionic's firmware update, it's not possible to revert it to the previous one.
I've taken the liberty to check with our Support team if you already contacted them and I've created a case for the ones that didn't have a case created, please check your email inbox, they will continue assisting you.
For the ones that have already contacted them, please continue the communication through email, they will continue assisting you and providing you with options.
@Denitra Thanks for sharing your experience with the new firmware update. I would like you to confirm that you've fully charged it. After this, confirm you're following this procedure to extend your Fitbit device's battery life.
@Elcs Thanks for letting me know that you're using a Fitbit clock face. Please confirm that you've checked these tips to improve your Fitbit device's battery life.
@Sealz08 Thanks for the details mentioned. I've shared your post with our Support team and they mentioned you had already a resolved case, please continue the communication through email.
@malar I'm glad to hear that you already received your replacement. Your Ionic doesn't have the latest firmware version, you will need to update it now that you received it. You can check the firmware version you have by going to your Fitbit app > tap on your watch's icon and then you'll see which version you have.
I'll be around if you have any additional question.

I did not have problem with my Fitbit Ionic since its replacements for erroneous HR registration. It was a persistent problem over 12 months without resolution despite multiple software updates requiring exchange of the watch.
After last update, the HR is again erroneous. It registers HR of 180 when I am just holding the watch by its watchband without contacting the undersurface of the watch. I get runs of HR in 180s few times per day for the last two to three weeks. I had to turn the HR off in order to break it.
I am resorting to the old ineffective factory reset and will see what happen. Any thoughts?

Since Fitbit has refused to take responsibility for their faulty firmware update that killed my perfectly working Ionic, I have been actively submitting honest review of my experience at retail websites, Facebook, and Instagram. Letting people know of my experience is the best way to warn others of Fitbit's lack of accountability

Hi @bliss_s
Same for me, the Fitbit app is no requiring the firmware update for my IONIC. I notice this after I switched back to use my Blaze device and returned to sync the IONIC.
I hope Fitbit development team solve the upgrade issue to avoid tons of bricked devices around the world and lost more loyal customers.

@SilviaFitbit I can confirm that in addition to all of the above steps, I have read the Battery Life hints and tips page.
This has not helped at all.

My husband got the update on his Ionic many days ago. He is using a Moto G4 Android phone. Since the update:
I have the same Fitbit (Ionic) and same model phone, but I have not yet received the update. Hoping to see that the problem is being fixed.
I'm going through the community posts now.

d_k, question: Did you find anywhere to turn notifications on/off? My husband got the update and the on/off for notification appears to be GONE. He discovered this because he's no longer receiving his notifications and went to make sure it was turned on--and he can't turn it on (or off) because he can't find that. He does get the notifications display via left button as set, but there's nothing there--none of the notifications are coming through, which suggests it is somehow off (or broken).
Any help appreciated. I've already noted the problem in my own thread. (I'm still "waiting" for the update on my own Ionic.)

Hi everybody, thanks for posting your comments about Fitbit Ionic.
@Harry222 sorry to hear about this issues with the heart rate on your Ionic. This is not a normal behavior, performing a factory reset is a good idea. Please note that after the factory reset you’ll need to reinstall any apps and music on your device after the reset. Try to sync your device before performing the factory reset. You can also restart your Ionic.
@DevonD thanks for your feedback. We don't have more information about warranty options since our customer support manage this information, but we're sorry about the inconvenience that you're having with your Ionic. Your feedback is important for us.
You're right, @Barrymc63 we continue monitoring this thread to help users to find a resolution for this issue. We appreciate your feedback.
@Ecuamer Thanks for sharing your feedback. Our team will be glad to keep assisting users that are having issues with Fitbit Ionic.
@Oscaraul Thanks for the piece of advice, our team is always trying to develop updates to fix issues with devices. As @SilviaFitbit mentioned, we roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
@Elcs Thanks for trying those steps to help the battery life on your Ionic. Since this didn't solve this issues with your Ionic, I've requested a case with our team. They will be sending you a follow up email shortly.
@bekbek Thanks for sharing the issues that you're husband is having with Fitbit Ionic. I'd suggest to force quit the Fitbit app and log out for a moment. The option to turn off/on notification hasn't been changed from the Fitbit app. Please advise him to follow the steps suggested here: My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone.
If the weather is still not updating, check the following settings:
If you change locations, sync your device to see your new location in the Weather app.
To change the units used for the temperature in the Weather app:
I'm glad to see that you're not having issues with your Ionic. I'd like to mention this model is not in the list of tested devices. We're currently receiving feedback about different devices that are not in the list and our team is working hard to add more devices to the list. But since this model of phone is not there we can't assure the Fitbit App will be working flawless for every feature.
@Ewoods23 Thanks for sharing your question. Please check this help article: How do I reset or change the PIN code on my Fitbit device? In the final step, you need to choose the option: (Enable for Fitbit Pay only). This will turn off the pin option when you're using other features from your Fitbit Ionic.
I'll be around in case that you need anything else.

Finally after much complaining here and on facebook, among other platforms, Fitbit have agreed to replace my (out of warranty) Ionic. I suppose its a good thing that they are finally listening, although I fear the relationship is terminally damaged. Of course, the new one hasnt arrived yet, and its anyone's guess how long it will last when it does...
So maybe there is hope for all the other consumers in the same unfortunate position. I had given up on it to be honest, but replied tersely to one of the many bot like customer service messages that kept arriving, telling me to do a bunch of stuff I had already tried days before, and that seems to have provoked a positive response.
Good luck to everyone else with out of warranty bricked devices. I dont know how widespread Fitbits replacement generosity will be, but I hope that they are going to do the right thing by everyone.

I had successfully hoofdstad updated my Ionic to the new firmware, but got annoyed by the slowness of the watch afterwards. Swiping through the apps had become very slow. Also, starting Fitbit Pay didn't always work. So as I had decided to do a factory reset.
I'm on an older firmware version now (27.33.1.30), it's impossible now to install the new Spotify app. I'm *not* offered the option to upgrade the firmware in the Fitbit app. How can I solve this?

So it looks like this update bricked my Ionic watch. Not very happy.
Everything looked as if it was updating and I went to sleep. Woke up to a black screen. Holding down the reset buttons for 20 second . Nothing. Holding down all the buttons nothing.
Letting it sit on the charger for an hour, tried again. Nothing.
Now what?

I didnt need the update. My fitbit was working fine. Now I have no watch and I am not going to spend money to buy a new one when I just bought this thing a year and a half ago.
We do not get many updates so the idea that they are under some sort of time pressure to get these updates out to us is BS.
I'm a customer. It's the same as if I took my fully working computer to best buy to be updated, and they told me, "sorry, our tech dropped it and damaged it, we suggest buying a new one and will not replace the item WE BROKE"

What do you mean with "Does Garmin work with Iwatch"? Garmin is a company like Apple. They produce their own gadgets. You may be able to sync from Apple to Garmin.
Going for a nap during update? Like napping while driving with the Tesla autopilot 😉
It is not possible if you did the update successfully that you are on a other OS version after hard reset. Fitbit does progresive rollouts. Maybe a waiting periode will trigger the update again.
