Fitbit Update: 10/9
Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.0.2, available for Ionic (Firmware Version: 27.68.9.15).
We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED
This release includes bug fixes and improvements.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.
If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.
We appreciate your patience while we work to roll this out to everyone.

When I plug my watch into my computer I get a message that says the watch cannot be found. I have tried removing my watch from my profile numerous times and reinstalling it and the wi-fi connection information will not stay in the watch. This is getting seriously annoying, the Ionic is a lot of money and I don't feel like I am getting what I paid for.

Ionic froze after newest update and I don't have an Iphone so it's not just an apple software issue. Also I have let it die completely, I've also reset it by holding the button until the logo blinked off. Still frozen on the stupid logo. It only shows the fitbit iligi and that's it. It won't do anything!

Update went well for me just now. I had wifi working and kept my phone's screen turned on with the Fitbit app showing for the whole time. I believe that is the secret since it prevents the phone from interfering with the process. Took 15 minutes for the update. I like the new quick settings and basic functions are still pretty obvious.
The only odd thing was that my Fitbit app on my phone was stuck with the message that it was installing for a few minutes after the red progress bar was 100%. So I touched the watch left button and noticed it showed Get Started. The watch then showed new features to me and worked fine. I rebooted my phone, cleared the app cache for Fitbit and now everything is as I expect after an upgrade.

Hi,
I am having the same problem and would like to see mine replaced as well. Did you email them or call them? Did they respond quickly?
Kind regards,
Petra

You should never update a good working Fitbit device or the app unless you like gambling.

Petra,
Fitbit will not even acknowledge that a problem exists for Ionic users those units became inoperative after updating to firmware version 68.9.12 or 68.9.15. Here is part of the email reply I received from them just now.
"We'd like to let you know that there might be similar reports on our community board. However, we can assure you that at this moment there is no known issue related to this matter. "
I bought a replacement Ionic at a 25% discount and I find it odd that my new Ionic is still on the previous firmware version and the new version does not show up as available. It makes me think that they know something is wrong for Ionic owners but are not willing to admit it.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your reply. I still am going to try to get a new one, because I won't accept that these crooks get away with this like that. I can't really believe you just bought a new one :s, this is unacceptable! I will post bad reviews and warning about this on several social media so (new) users can be warned.

There are too many other Ionic owners on this message thread complaining about the exact same problem. It is difficult for me to accept that this is mere coincidence. I have moved on though. I now have another functioning Ionic and my credit card used to purchase both Ionics had "double manufactures warranty" so they filled in where Fitbit customer support was lacking. I liked the new version before my old Ionic died so I am looking forward to receiving it again. Thx.

Petra,
I would have also fought for a no charge replacement if I had known there were so many others (such as yourself) who had the same problem. Since my Ionic was almost two years old I just accepted it as "used up" and took advantage of the 25% discount offered for a replacement one. I didn't realize until later on that my unit failure was not the only one with this most recent firmware update. It's irritating that they will not even admit there is a problem.

Do you use custom clockface? Change back to an original Fitbit one. It also helps with battery drain problems.

I can unsterstand your decision, but still think it is so frustrating. Mine is 1 year and two months old and I read on the website there is a two year warranty, so I will try to get a new one. How did you contact them? I only find an e-mail address to contact them but no phone number.

After numerous attempts, I have finally got the ionic updated by wifi, by which the ionic downloads the update for about 10mins, then the installation is a breeze.
I have no idea why in the same environment, previous update attempts by wifi failed. Feel very lucky that I did not brick the ionic during the process.
