Hello Ionic family!
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1.2.
We started releasing this new update to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases aren’t distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside.

I updated my Ionic to the latest firmware and the update went smoothly. However my clockface, JustBig, quit working. It only showed a battery indicator with no charge and a heartbeat monitor with no data. It would swap to the other screen. I swapped to another face which works. Resets did not restore the JustBig functionality. The Android app shows the faces are in the process of switching whenever I go there, but it has already switched.
It is a developer probable or a FitBit issue?

The update only took about 10 minutes. Flawless installation.
The first thing I noticed was much better syncing. It syncs on the first try now, all the time. Thanks Fitbit!

Update killed my device too! Update seemed to hangup it was over 2 hours. Took off charger, screen went to the fitbit icon and just stayed there. Was finally able to do the 3 button reset and get the vibration but then the screen went black and device will not power on. Left on charger all night. Still dead. I've tried the left button turn on, the left button/right bottom button reset, and the 3 button reset. It won't do anything. It worked fine before this update!

Go to the fitbit app and click your ionic, then go to apps. After that you can search it up and reinstall it I believe.

My symptoms are identical to what you describe. It seems as if our cases are distinct from what most people are experiencing. I wonder if it has something to do with the clock face that we used at the time of the update. I am still inside of the Fitbit Warranty period, and I have submitted a claim.

@IonicTrouble2 how do you submit a claim?

How did you go about submitting a claim? I've only had my watch for 7 months. I'm so mad.

This update killed my ionic as well. Waited about 4 hours for the update to complete and got nothing. Now screen is slowly blinking the fitbit logo. Tried chatting with fitbit, they offered me a 25% discount on a new one. Totally unacceptable, I've had it for about 15 months. Has anyone been able to get any actual help or a working solution?
Nate

This **ahem** update bricked my Ionic as well. Update went through and I did a run after the update finished. The Ionic died after the half way (I started with more than 50% battery and usually I need on that lap 20-25%).
Now the watch isn’t responding to charging, pressing buttons... just dead!
Great Work FitBit!!! Oh and yes my Watch isn‘t covered by warrenty...
Next device will be a Garmin or Apple Watch!

@ImagineTimes install what? The Ionic will not even power on so the app cannot find the device to install anything.

@ImagineTimes ; if you are referring to reinstalling the Fitbit OS, I cannot find this in fitbit-app/ionic/apps. I’ve searched for “fitbit os” and “firmware”, but no hits. I’ve also searched to see if I can find it somewhere else in the fitbit-app, but cannot find it.

@IonicTrouble2 ; did you mean that you have the same issue/result as I’m experiencing (no letters/text/numbers, only icons in all screens)?
At the time of the upgrade, I had the “Forecast” (by OziByte) as my clock face. I briefly thought that this was the problem and tried to change to another one (Ace, by Fitbit). But this didn’t help getting my text/letters/numbers back in the screens...
edit: due to the fact that I’m missing all numbers, the clock faces with numbers telling the time, are not showing the time. But, “Ace” clock face is an analogue clock (= icon), so with that I know what time it is, until this problem is fixed. Just an advice...

all, I was able to bring my watch back to live.
I disconnected the watch from the charging port and pressed the left and the right bottom button for ~10seconds. After doing so the screen turned on showing the fitbit icon. At this moment I connected the watch with the charger and the watch booted normally and the watchface is now showing the charging icon.

@SilvanaFitbit The problem I’m experiencing seems to be that no fonts were installed with the update. So the watch cannot show any text/numbers, only icons and symbols... Possible idea?

And yet they insist on enthusiastically sending us to the update log webpage whenever someone asks why we should risk running the latest update, as if it contains any useful insight. Its patronising at best, and more like pouring gas on the flames for any already pissed off customers.

Dear @Iain_K : I’ve read some of your previous posts. And you seems to be a man of clear messages. So I figure I can be clear to you as well. Right?
You don’t seem to get much support from Fitbit, do you? I’ve actually had two Fitbit Surge watches exchanged, out of warranty myself. My experience of the products and the company is very good.
But here’s the deal: threats and speaking bad of the product and company doesn’t work well as a “support strategy”. Actually it’s quite stupid.
However, constructive and polite posts with positive attitude works way better. That is intelligent.
But of course, you’re free to choose either way...

Hey all! I finally got through to live chat and after we went through all the steps for my bricked Ionic, they offered a 50% discount on a new product of my choice or a complete replacement of what I currently have. Mine is still new and I'm assuming that's why the discount is higher than the aforementioned 25% from previous posters. What I find slightly disturbing from this is they told me to recycle the watch instead of sending it back to them. I would think their R&D department would want to work on the defective products to find out what happened. That's just my thought on it though. Hopefully having a new one will mean having a functioning product. Hubby just did his update and his is perfectly fine. 😞
