Hello Ionic family!
We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1.2.
We started releasing this new update to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.
*Firmware releases aren’t distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside.

Many of the people getting bricked and refused replacements are on their second or third pebble, having already had their original devices replaced under the warranty only to have the replacement device (presumably new stock) fail in short order without cover because fitbit only cover from the date of the original purchase, not the time of their most recent replacement. Meanwhile many people with older Ionics are unaffected, so I really doubt it is related to the age of the hardware.
Besides, if what you are suggesting is true its even more scandalous; Who in their right mind implements a firmware update without beta testing it on all the hardware variants?
This update bricking has been going on for at least the last 3 or 4 update cycles, its not a new thing only happening with the launch of the most recent version, so whatever the issue is, Fitbit have not gotten to the bottom of it and continue to inflict this pain on users without offering anything close to acceptable customer support.
And they still continue to say they are following their corporate warranty policy, but the reality is that they support some out of warranty period customers while leaving others to fend for themselves. I just hope the credit card companies supporting extended warranty claims are getting their money back from Fitbit somehow so that Fitbit become financially motivated not to keep doing this.

This update practically bricked my fitbit Ionic...
What kind of **ahem**ing noobs developers put this update to production...?
Even I lost connection from app to watch.

Mine blacked out and died hours after the update. Once I recharged it it proceeded to use the whole battery in five hours and refused to let me scroll using the screen. The buttons work, but only for their functions - all other apps and functions are either erased or inaccessible. I have restarted it twice and recharged it twice to no avail.

On the same boat as everyone else. After the update, my Fitbit Ionic basically turned into a useless potato. I got the update on April 24th and I've tried every trick in the book to try and reset it. Nothing worked.
There is no tracking whatsoever. No sleep, no steps, no heart rate, nothing. It won't even track when I bring the watch to my wrist and wake up the screen. It's pointless to wear now.
I had it off for a week hoping that by the time I turned it back on there would be an update to fix it... Instead I came across this thread and found that there were a lot more people like me having the same issues...

Hi, there’s a lot more people experiencing this unacceptable fault / situation that I initially thought. The company needs to take responsibility for their product fault / issue.
let’s see what (if any) responses we get.

Ever since this update the battery life on my ionic is shocking, it barely lasts more than a day, and only using the gps for an hours walk a day.

Since updating the software, my ionic battery lasts less than 24 hours and is effectively useless. Are you building obsolescence into these updates to try and sell more units?

I updated a few days ago, and today my Fitbit Ionic is acting very strange. It seems like it's constantly rebooting and buzzing non-stop. It alternates between showing me that the battery is 0% and the fitbit loading logo...
edit: I plugged it in, it kept rebooting and buzzing (not non-stop, but like a 1 - 2- 3...), so I held down the reset button combination and it looks like it's charging normally now. It's at 6%. If you don't hear from me again, assume it's back to normal.
The weird thing is is that reset didn't work before I plugged it in...
edit edit: woke up to a completely dead watch. 😞

Hi earthiverse
if you’ve not already done this then try putting on charge until is reaches 100% - then switch the watch off until the next day, if the battery is greatly reduced (50% or less) it’s likely you have the same issue as nearly everyone who’s updated the latest update.

Add me to the list of battery drainers.
I wish to go back to the previous FW-version. 😞

What I was afraid, just happened. The Fitbit iOS app has been updated with no more than a simple changelog line: Bug fixes and improvements
That's it! 🙂
I will not update the watch and I will not update the app.
Thanks, but no thanks.

@AlldoI charged it overnight, and I woke up to a completely dead watch 😞
I'm going to try to leave it unplugged for a day or two, but I'm expecting the worst...

I tried again today o contact Fitbit support and after waiting “music” on hold for 15 minutes, got disconnected. This is horrendous customer service. Might be time to contact BBB and make a complaint.

Since the update my Ionic keeps freezing (blank screen or Logo only). This happens constantly throughout the day. It has become quite annoying. When will this issue be fixed? Reading the forum it’s obvious that this issue is widespread.

Upgraded firmware last week and immediately noticed battery consumption increased. (Went down 25% from full charge overnight) .
Following advice from forum, did a full reset.
Fitbit now bricked. Cannot turn it on.
Tried on button
Left and bottom right button for 10 seconds, all buttons for 30 seconds.

This would be fine if only I could get my ionic to show anything but flashing Fitbit logo. Aaaaaaahhhhh!!

one has to think this must be the case, but then again reputational damage is often impossible to repair. For instance I've been with Fitbit since 2013 but have now gone to Samsung Active2 device and telling all my friends not to buy Fitbit devices as products and customer service sucks, to say the least 🤬

I've had problems since 22nd April when ionic updated overnight, not been able to use since. Hoping for a fix I switched to using my old Surge and still nothing, not even the obligatory "we are looking into it" statement but 25% off new device! I have walking and cycling exercises to do and record so got a Samsung.
