Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30-minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

@BradMcCormick Yea, I don't know either, I have never turned mine off and always get 3-4 days out of it using GPS for bike rides and tracking in the gym.

I wear my charge HR to work Monday to Friday so my Ionic is sat at home all day turned off...

Dong this I only had to charge it every 8 or 9 days.

Now turn it off and I lose at least 33% of the battery life while it is turned off. And to turn it back on is more of a reset with a two button 15 second press.

This all happened directly after I did the  update.

Prior to this it was fine.

Admittedly Fitbit have been very good about this and arranged a replacement as mine is only 20 months old, but I’m 100% certain this is caused by this firmware update, and I will find it once I set up the replacement.

This OS update ruined by Ionic.   Previously it was a great device; however, since receiving the update:

  • I cannot power on the device using the left button.  I have to hold one of the right buttons for at least 12-15 seconds for the device to power on
  • Even after shutdown, the battery continues to drain considerably.  This afternoon, I shut down the watch when leaving my home (I use another smartwatch when driving) and had approximately 54% battery.   Tonight when I tried to power back on to track my sleep, the battery was dead.

I hope Fitbit either corrects the power issue, or is there a way to roll back the update?

I'm having the exact issues Serion mentioned plus an additional one! After performing the 12-15 sec button combination to turn my Ionic on, all the details on the screen (including the time & date) is not up-to-date and the readings are from when I last shut down the watch!

This is a total mess and went from being simple to use to a hassle. If there is a way to revert to the previous firmware update please share.

Please advise how did you contact Fitbit to replace my ionic bought on July 25, 2018?

Thanks

@carlfxy It was lasting him a good 5/6 days. He wouldn't wear it to bed so it wasn't tracking sleep. It was only after this update did the ionic fail.

@YojanaFitbit  I have looked at all this info on the website.  I know the phone I have is not on the list (although I was not questioned about phone model when I bought the Ionic).  But it has worked for 6 months with no problems.  Now the 'upgrade' has made it useless.  I echo the other disappointed user in asking why we cannot go back to previous software & firmware versions?  I did not see anything broken before?  I do not intend to buy a new phone when I can get a workable tracker from another maker if Fitbit will not give a solution.

Hi..

Since this update on my ionic runs crash back to the home page and I only get 0.5 to 1 mile recorded. I have been on 3 runs so far with the same issue.  I turned of the auto on screen just in case the screen was being touched when running. It was fine on the previous firmware.

Can you advise

Thanks

I have the same issue.
Since the update my Ionic close itself during activity. I wrote another message but it was deleted with no reasons.

So, how can we downgrade this Fitbit OS to the previous one that worked?

Thank you!

Hi @lucaiuli thanks for letting us know that you're also having a similar issue with you Ionic. About your inquiry, there is no option to go back to previous update in the Fitbit app. Please confirm if you have already restarted your Fitbit.

Thank you for your understanding.

My Ionic reports false battery info after the last update. It goes all the way to 0% and shuts down my Ionic. When I put it back to charge it goes from where was left, not even close to 0% as it was reported when shut down.

This wasn’t the case when I was using the previous version of Fitbit OS.

Now my watch is useless and I am out of warranty.

Thanks,

Julian

@YojanaFitbit

I have tried everything. Was told by Fitbit customer service that my issues with notifications and "no device found" was an app issue. Just got the new update today, 3.12, for the app. Still did NOT fix my issues. What gives. Getting super irritated!! 🤬🤬🤬

I'm curious, before I update my Ionic, how many peoples replacement Ionic's have exhibited the same symptoms as the one it replaced? Are the replacements working normally as far as battery life and powering off correctly?

Best Answer

@YojanaFitbit

I am still seeing the issue of the watch setting my weight to 465 lbs everyday. When I set it on the watch, it never wants to sync to the app. Weight and water intake tracking entered on the watch would sync previous to the update for the most part, even then, if it wouldn't I could usually force it by restarting the watch (which I  shouldn't have had to do in the first place)

Now after the update it will almost not sync those entries at all. I get lucky every once and a while, but after this update, this feature has been next to useless.

It also seems that the watches connection to my phone is much worse now than prior to the update, I  restart the watch and phone, sometimes numerous times to get them to communicate.

Getting very frustrated with this device, to spend this kind of money and get this type of performance is not good.

Battery life seems to be deteriorating after this update.  I also can't turn off the ionic and turn back on without a hard reset.

Not sure this update is working out as well as I expected.

Happening to me as well.  Strange, hopefully they figure that and update....
