Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30-minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For anyone following this: I discovered I had purchased an extended warranty from the retailer when I bought my Fitbit. I took it into the store and they replaced it after being able to replicate the fault, despite being out of the manufacturer's warranty. They advised me Fitbit has now extended the manufacturer's warranty to two years. This was a useful solution to my dilemma and I now have a new device with a four year (manufacturer plus extended) warranty so feel more confident undertaking updates into the future.

@PBRinAus If you dont mind me asking, where did you buy your from that you were offered an extended warranty, as my purchase from a high end store never mentioned this or offered one.

Hi @AngelDeath, I purchased it from JB HiFi in Western Australia. I would probably be voted "most likely to refuse an extended warranty" but through some crazy fluke of fate, I must have intuitively known this was going to come up as a problem AND I was responsible enough to keep a copy of the warranty in a place I'd find it again - more than two years after buying it. On that basis alone, I pretty much walked around feeling like I was winning at life for the whole Christmas period, and now have a new watch.

@PBRinAus Good for you, glad your intuition kicked in for whatever reason. No extended warranty here in the states and definitely not through the department store I bought it from.

With this most recent Ionic update,  my Fitbit stopped working completely. Unable to charge, restart, reset to factory settings.NOTHING! I get to look at the Fitbit logo all the time!
Shame on you Fitbit! For the amount of money you charge for these devices( I’ve had 5) there is an expectation they will work without jumping through hoops and should work well beyond their warranty not just a couple days or weeks!

I have been a loyal Fitbit user since November 2016 and I have to say it changed my life for the better!!  But no more! I’m tired of bug issues, the inability to sync for days on end, inability to use apps or GPS, and the loss of the notifications!
Farewell Fitbit hope you can get your act together and not let this latest debacle be your downfall!

Now if you’ll excuse me I need to go check the shipping progress of my new Garmin which should be here tomorrow!!

Agreed, Fitbit needs to worry more about fixing the bugs they have introduced and put a hold on "features" that no one can use since they are breaking the watches.

I am giving them one more chance, they also have made things for the better for me as well. Saved my life from a massive heart attack. But if I cant rely on stable watch or data from them, then I need to find one that will.

So many life changing and saving stories from a simple fitness watch. Stories of.motivation and success from a fitness watch. Seems the Fit is going.out of Fitbit and being replaced by Gadget. I don't need a Gadbit!!

Problem after update:    Updated to 27.70.7.14.     Now I am having an issue with turning my ionic on.  I have to turn it off when I drive so it doesn’t log steps while I am driving.  Before the update, I was able to turn it back on just by pressing the left button.  After the update, the only way I can turn it back on is to hold down the left button and the bottom right button. (Which is the “restart” procedure).  Then when it does restart, the time is wrong and I have to resync to correct the time.  This never happened before the update. Is there a way to roll back to a previous version?

How long is this “fix” going to take?? Very very poor considering what you charge for a fitbit and it doesn’t do what it says on the tin!!!!

Best Answer

The bluetooth issues are ludicrous.

how long your team will take to troubleshoot ? im not even can use my Ionic after i install this hilarious firmware update. the battery will drain like waterfall just after charge,

I'll follow this topic with interest. I've been a fitbit user for some years now, but really am fed up with it now. GPS tracking for running is nowhere near accurate enough compared to other watches, but I persisted with the Ionic as I liked the notification feature, but since this has now disappeared, what is there to keep me using my Fitbit? Can't use it for my runs anymore and useless as a smart watch, so now becomes an expensive timepiece.
