Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30-minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

I had to do the two-finger reboot to resolve this.

Many thanks for all who have contributed to this problem.
I contacted Amazon UK for help with my 'dead' Ionic that failed when about
18 months old. They were brilliant and with no complaints replaced it with
a new one.
I provided details about what had gone wrong with it and the ways I had
tried to correct it which I think helped. I opened a chat with Amazon last
night and received the replacement and return label today; excellent
response.

Well the app upgrade to 3.13 seems to have sorted this for me.  Tracker & phone syncing (so keeping time!), battery life still 5 days, all that I need for now.  If only they had  workable map app (for UK)!

I just replaced my fitbit ionic. I conected my new fitbit ionic to my phone via the fitbit app but it is not giving me the option to install the firmwear update. Anyway I can force it to see the update. I checked and the new ionic is not on the latest firmwear version.

thanks

Hi SunRiseRun,

How did you upgrade (downgrade) to 3.13 when 7.14 is the latest?

Maybe I missed the post where this was explained - sorry

Hi @gseale 3.13 is the phone app version whereas 7.14 is the tracker firmware version

This has been a botched release by FitBit. Going to 70.7.14 reduced battery life for my 2 year old Ionic from 4.5 days to 15 hours! This is plainly unacceptable!

FitBit service asked me to do battery tests, and we found that it drains in 15 hours. They will not offer any resolution to the issue. I asked them to just revert my watch to where it was a week ago!

They are saying I should get rid of this one, and buy another.

Ridiculous I'm done with FitBit. Time to shop for an alternate.

All in all, FitBit botched this upgrade. See all the battery life issues this version introduces as well!

Might be time to say goodbye to FitBit. The company isn't what it used to be, and there are far better options now.

My ionic device firmware is still in version 3.0 (27.33.1.30). When will i receive the latest update 4.1?

HaySat, I spoke with Fitbit today, apparently the update is still rolling out. Customer service could give me no time frame as to when my new ionic could expect the update. My old ionic had already had the update pushed to it, but then it died. My new replacement has yet to see the update. *sigh*

I’ve updated it several times now and yet it keeps asking me to update and it keeps asking me to calibrate my device. How do I get this to stop? I have the Ionic and I updated for a 5th time to the new firmware about an hour ago. It just asked me to update again and calibrate again. This is extremely annoying.

Yup, me too..... I just stopped updating and am ignoring it for now, until something is fixed.

I'm already at 70.7.14

GoSo, the blood oxygen level (which it only calculates while sleeping) is separate from the firmware update. I do not have the firmware update, but I am seeing blood oxygen level readings at the very bottom of my sleep analysis (in the app on my phone, I do not see that information anywhere on the watch itself). I only noticed it was recording this a few days ago, but when I go back and look it has actually been recording the information since around Dec 13th.

Are you referring to the bottom of my "sleep stages". Do have the "premium" version. I don't see anything under  sleep

I was wondering if that was part of the is firmware upgrade or the app upgrade.

I don't see it either, I didn't think you had to have a premium membership to see it as it's supposed to be a function of the watch.

I did see an article earlier this week saying it was a new feature added by the latest upgrade but they never said if it was a firmware or app upgrade.
