Fitbit Update: 12/5

Hi everyone!

We’re excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 4.1 (Firmware Version: 70.7.14).

We've begun releasing this new firmware to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

The update includes a variety of new features and enhancements, including:

    • Smart wake: Smart wake will gently begin to wake you with subtle vibrations during the optimal part of your sleep cycle (during light or REM) within a 30-minute window prior to your pre-set alarm. This allows you to wake up feeling refreshed.

    • Clock face switcher: You will now be able to store up to five clock faces right on your device and quickly change from one to the other using the new clock face switcher.

    • On-wrist Sleep Score: The score will now be available in the on-device dashboard that can be accessed by swiping up from the clock face. You can still see it alongside your sleep data within the Fitbit app after you sync.

    • Exercise app improvements: The redesigned Exercise app will now display all 20 workouts in a new streamlined list on your wrist.

    • Battery notification: When your battery is running low, a new feature will automatically disable notification vibrations

    • Agenda app: A new Agenda app allows you to see your calendar right on your wrist.

For more information on the new features included in Fitbit OS 4.1 check out this article. You can also check out our press release

Very annoyed with the support team. I've had battery issues before so this week made a note of when I fully charged the device and the support can even see this on my account. They've just asked me to repeat the test?

Such a waste of time.

@youhippy be aware that it appears some replacement devices sent out are not “new” replacements but “refurbished “ items.

The product code on the packing slip will be either FBR503.... (refurbished) or FBN503.... (new).

I was originally sent a refurbished Ionic that was faulty and ended up going through customer support a second time.

A very poor performance, sending out faulty warranty replacements. Essentially fobbing you off with a secondhand replacement which considering the longevity of the Ionic would only just get you out of warranty.

Hi YojanaFitbit.  could you find out please as there seems to be no answer here, that the latest update has removed the ability to shut the watch off. Its still in the menu but when you shutdown this way it will not restart as it used to and also if you leave off overnight it will flatten to 0% a fully charged battery. also you can only restart by doing a reset.

The ability to turn the watch off was very useful as i only used the ionic for cycling and running and used my charge 2 as a regular watch/step counter, is there any intention to restore in the next update this really useful function.

hi,
Can you not go into settings scroll down and tap on ABOUT, then scroll down
to shutdown just below Factory reset and turn your Ionic of that way ?

Hi Matt,

has there been a fix to the massive issue of messages not being received by fitbit devices. I bought the ionic because it was the fitbit flagship, and didn’t mind paying the extra because of all the features. I specifically rely on messages being pushed to my ionic while on long runs. This is no longer working due to the update. There is no fix that is working, as we can see by the thousands of customers providing frustrated feedback. When can we expect a fix? Fitbit is losing customers daily.
thanks

This is my problem too.  I have no confidence in the Support suggestion to run my Ionic battery to zero and see what happens, when it is clear that the "turn off" functionality is damaged by the Update.  Otherwise my Ionic seems ok.  So I hope the techies at Fitbit figure out a firmware update to correct the problem that is clear from so may posts mentioning this.  I won't purposely trash my Ionic to test it though.

I was having all of these issues, and I tried to do a factory reset from the menu on the watch. It shut down and never came back. Luckily I have an extended warranty.

Hi everybody,

I just updated my ionic and have the following issue:

Before the update I could turn off my watch (e.g. to save battery life) without a problem. I simply pushed the left button shortly and the watch started and connected with the phone immediately. After the update, when I turn it off I have to hold all three buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds to start it and then have to sync it manually. Also the battery is down to about 10-15% after a turn off/ turn on.
Anybody else ran into that issue?

Regards, Gernot

Yeah, the turn off functionality really has a big problem. At first I thought my watch died. You don't need to use the 3 buttons to start it again (left and bottom right are sufficient) but I don't think it's normal.

Given that my watch often stops syncing with the phone since this update and I have to turn it off to solve the issue, the restart bug is very annoying.

Another issue I have is that since this update : I use a watch face where I can tap to switch to hpm, steps, calories, stairs and active minutes. Before the update, using the left button on any of the displays brought back to the clock screen, now it just turns the screen on/off and shows the last info and I have to tap the screen multiple times to go back to the clock which is very annoying and not user-friendly at all.

Fitbit really messed up with this update. I really hope they release a fixed version asap. Actually considering switching to a huawei watch gt.

Gernot- that is my problem as well.  Otherwise it works ok for me, but I can no longer turn it off without messing everything up.  So I don't turn it off any longer.  The Support team wants me to run the battery down but that makes no sense- it is clearly from the firmware update that this issue started.

I do not use my Fitbit that often ... I decided to charge it up .... a few days later I was asked to "Update Tracker" on my app.

I updated from 33 1 3 0 to 70 7 14

My update went very smoothly.

I know my Fitbit app was up to date, I know my Fitbit could connect to my WIFI as the first thing I did when I charged it up was sync new music.

During the Update, iPhone said 'Downloading' ... the Ionic showed a bar for a few seconds.

Next showed 'Installing' ... Ionic showed a bar increasing across the entire Ionic screen ... a light blue bar that filled the screen over the Fitbit logo ... took several minutes.

I noted my messages did not show ( txt ) ... but I noted I had disabled the 'Preview' on my iPhone ... I allowed iPhone Preview 'Always' via Notifications and then txt Messages were back and showing up on the Ionic.

Just wanted to update everyone .... I'll see if I can note the battery time ... and I'll post back.

Cheers!

Mine has at last just updated again to latest firmware.
All seems to be running fine along those lines.
My battery is a little sad not even 24 hrs since fully charged and down to
50% not lasting the 5 days that they say it should,
Doing a test for them at present want to know when it's completely drained,
at this rate that will be tomorrow.
