We’re excited to announce that a firmware update for Ionic will be available soon! Some of you may already have this update available - if you installed it, let us know what you think!
If you don’t see the update yet, that’s expected. Check the Fitbit app in a few days, and you’ll see a message when you can install the update. We expect everyone to receive the update in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience while we get this update to all of our customers.
Did you know that we gradually release our updates? We do this to make sure everything is working just right for you. Sometimes we find an issue and it might take a little longer than expected for everyone to get the update. While you might see suggestions on how to “force” an update, we ask that you don’t try any of these workarounds. Most of the time the update won’t be available and you can lose data or encounter other difficulties. The best way to get the update is to be patient and wait for the update banner to appear in the Fitbit app.
WHAT’S NEW AND FIXED

Welcome to the Forums, @lcse. Thank you for adding your feedback about your Ionic. I was checking your case with our support team and it looks like you can keep troubleshooting your Fitbit, since it didn't finish the update. If you do so, please use the same case number you were given via chat.
@BrianRCullinane Thank you for adding your comment. Sorry to hear about the syncing issues with your Fitbit, I noticed that you already contacted our support team. I'm sure they will answer soon.
In the meantime, confirm that your phone is up to date. And please try removing the Bluetooth connection between your phone and your Fitbit device:
On your phone, tap Settings > Bluetooth > the information icon next to the name of your Fitbit device > Forget This Device.
Open the Fitbit app and set up the connection again. You should receive a message asking you to allow your Fitbit device to pair with your phone. Tap Pair to approve the request.
Sync your Ionic automatically when you open the Fitbit app or manually by tapping your profile picture > your device tile > Sync Now.
You will find more troubleshooting steps here Why won't my Fitbit device sync?
Hope this helps.

Hi Yojana, I have now carried out several resets and two factory default settings restarts. Each time the ionic works for a few hours and then goes into a continuous reboot loop until the battery dies.
Everything had been working fine until about a week ago - what was updated to cause this ?

I don't know if this helps but I tried the update multiple times and each time it said 'update failed' and a pink X on my watch. I gave up but I came to this thread to find out the number for the update and lo and behold, it matches my watch.

I have been over the trouble shooting steps many times now and the app can no longer find the watch, no matter what I try. I have been trying to re-establish a connection on the chat function but they are ignoring me. For everyone reading this in the UK, please note that we have statutory consumer rights here, see point number three
@YojanaFitbit Will Fitbit be issuing a fix for the problems this update has caused?

I hope the update fixes my fitbit. It has been acting strange lately. Taking forever to charge, even when connected to a wall outlet. Inaccurate distance (a route I regularly run so I know the distance), and pulse not accurate. As in, registering a pulse of 123 before I put the watch on.....or having a lower pulse than it should be after I ran up a flight of steps.....I KNOW when the pulse is wrong.
So, I sincerely hope the update fixes these issues.

Can someone please tell me how to find which firmware version my Ionic is currently running? When I hit my picture in today (top left) then hit Ionic, it says Version 72.1.9 which I assumed is the Ionic firmware. But this format isn't anything like YojanaFitbit post indicating that the new version is 4.2.2. Similarly when I run through the menu on my Ionic itself, I found 27.72.1.9 under SETTINGS =>ABOUT which looks to be the same version as the app. but again, the version format is nothing like Yojana's post. Thanks

Fix the problems soon....a lot of fitbit ionic users are having the same problem. It can't be that all of our expensive watches all bit the dust the same way at the same time!!!

See Versa smartwatch product forum. The Ionic and older versa watches must share their operating system.
Surely there needs to be a dedicated team that can help the people that have bricked devices?
Fitbit are not doing themselves justice each time they roll out an update.

Following standard update procedure, as the Ionic is updating, the Fitbit logo screen on the Ionic and it goes from blue bar crossing the screen to a green bar near the end, as if complete, then, after a short while phone says the update failed and the Ionic goes to the normal watch face screen. If I choose to try again (ignoring the option to try over bluetooth), I get the blue fitbit logo on the Ionic then the pink x on the Ionic shows and goes back to the normal watch face screen and the phone says update failed. At that point I went into the Ionic settings screen (grey gear) on the Ionic and chose the shutdown option. After shutdown, I restarted watch (hold all 3 buttons for several seconds). The Fitbit logo appears and then the watch face after watch reboots. On the phone, I exit and reenter the Fitbit App, choose the Ionic and see the firmware version is the currently updated version (27.72.1.15). It appears the update works but doesn't complete "gracefully" and is confusing users by saying it failed.
