We’re excited to announce that a firmware update for Ionic will be available soon!  Some of you may already have this update available - if you installed it, let us know what you think!

If you don’t see the update yet, that’s expected. Check the Fitbit app in a few days, and you’ll see a message when you can install the update. We expect everyone to receive the update in the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience while we get this update to all of our customers.

Did you know that we gradually release our updates? We do this to make sure everything is working just right for you. Sometimes we find an issue and it might take a little longer than expected for everyone to get the update. While you might see suggestions on how to “force” an update, we ask that you don’t try any of these workarounds. Most of the time the update won’t be available and you can lose data or encounter other difficulties. The best way to get the update is to be patient and wait for the update banner to appear in the Fitbit app.

Every year the same... I am on my 5th replacement.. Not synching, Bluetooth pairing gone... Time losing hours. I have contacted the support team again... Let's see if they send a replacement this year... May be time for a different tracker though. Good luck with yours.

Having exactly the same issues. Lasted 3 -4 days before update. Full charge now won't get through a day.  Down to 82  in less than an hour.

Only thing changed was the update.

They need to sort what's happened with this update before they lose a big portion of their customers   I had the not counting steps issues too.

Wish I never installed the update.   Had issues getting  it to track steps again and now it won't hold charge. Was lasting 3 - 4 right up until I did the update. Now its on charge for the 3rd time today. Ridiculous.

If these issues from the update aren't resolved I for one will be going to a different brand

Has anyone managed to resolve the battery issue?

Hello Tiger77,
I have the same problem, the watch functions again, but it cannot hold the
charge. Before the update I had to charge around 4 days, now about 2 days
or less

Battery was fully functional prior to this update - I have text proof that I even told my sister who was trying to sell me her old Apple Watch that mine was perfectly fine and I didn’t need it.  I did the firmware update and went from having 4-5 days of battery using a daily alarm, occasional gps, and calendar/call notifications to now barely getting 24 hours of battery.

I installed the firmware update. It removed the exercise app and it won't reinstall it. I am not very happy!

I have updated the latest release and my phone did not sync with the watch. I tried restarting and connecting with my phone, but the phone is not restarting! What do I do?

Since the update my Fitbit can’t register my swims.  I have tried contacting support it’s honestly very frustrating.   I am just about to give up Fitbit and go to an Apple Watch

Found update, installed it while on charge and following correct instructions.  Ionic became slow, unresponsive to wrist twist/wake up screen.  Heart rate monitoring became intermittent.  Then it stopped recording sleep in the middle of the night.  Seeing this in the morning, I restarted device and resynced.  No affect.

Whole device started freezing and periodically resetting itself - screen blanked out then goes to Fitbit logo.

Called Service - they said it was broken and warranty department would get in touch by email.  Refused to acknowledge issues with this update.  Refused to resend update to my device again....  Refused to let me speak to a manager...  Then just stopped speaking for about 3-5 minutes before hanging up on me.  No return call - so we know that the call didn't accidentally drop.

The issues are with the UPDATE itself - get Fitbit to correct the update and resend it!!

@-Angeliclee I truly wouldn't trust a repaired version of this 'update'.

I've not downloaded the firmware and my Ionic works perfectly fine, for now at least.

I believe the update was meant to damage Ionics and Versas, bug fixes to a perfectly working OS seems very vague.  It looks more likely to be a way to shift off older models and push newer models.

Best Answer

This 'update' is a scam - designed to crash your device and then offer you a 'discount' on a new Fitbit.  They offered me the same - within a few hours...   Don't fall for it!

Best Answer

Sounds like you are completely correct. This 'update' is intentional
destruction of private property.

But a 'repaired' and resent Update can fix the device - I know because I've
had them do it before.

NO ONE BUY another Fitbit replacement with their BS 'discount' and they will
learn not to pull this crap.

Best Answer

Completely agree @@catkinso -- poor discount is a slap in the face of loyal customers.  Fitbit can easily fix this issue with an update - it's obvious this is affecting Ionic - and no resolution.

NO ONE should replace their device with another Fitbit when they cannot be trusted with the ones we've already purchased.

I have the same. At first the sensor didnot work after the update, after 2 day it spontaneously worked again. Only my battery holds 2 days instead of 4 days. Since 2 day the Heart rate monitoring became intermittent. Then it stopped recording sleep in the middle of the night.. I did the same restart, reset resyncing, no affect.
