Fitbit Pay is not always working on Ionic

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi there, I have a ionic - about 2 months old and sometime payment works other times it doesn’t. There doesn’t seem to be any continuity. Anyone else have this issue?

I have tried paying on old and new terminals and it just seem temperamental!

@Robyn-TWRDon't worry about the "old" Premium. It was a paid for system that allowed us to effectively set and examine our targets, and comparing to the Fitbit population, but Fitbit quietly removed it from the platform with no fan fare.  The New Coach/ Premium isn't suitable for me and appears to be targeted at the younger audience, and forgetting that the Seniors have the disposable income..

When I export the HR data after using Workout it gives me an exported heart beat every 2 seconds for analysis, whereas if you don't use workout you only get an exported heart beat every 7-8 seconds.  Here is an example, and mentioning that the Fitbit isn't a medical device I was able to pick up my missing heart beat where it does some quick catch ups in the peaks after a missed heart beat.. Smiley Happy All approved by my cardiologist, just my genes... low RHR etc..

If we keep at this in Fitbit Pay..the mods will cut these out and place in a new topic...

@Colinm39 sharing knowledge is great - thanks 😄, but I’m a little slow. What is this premium you’ll be losing in March?  I always use run, maybe for 1.5hrs a day. Is a 2-3 day battery drain reasonable?  I’ve never used Exercise and I dont understand what you mean by:

“If you use Workout you get about 30 HR plots/minute, if not you only get 8 HR plots/minute”

Also, I would have shared here what my Fitbit Pay issues are, as they’re different  to  @Gregga  issue - but I’ve detailed them already in a separate thread and i fear if I list it here, the mods will delete it and say its cross posting

Thanks 😊 Maybe we should self edit our posts to remove what doesn’t relate to Fitbit pay

@Robyn-TWR We could edit, remove and create another topic which then confuses the threads about HR etc...  But some chatter is good  for the forums when you consider most of the posts are issues.. Not many pats on the  back for Fitbit..

I would prefer some input from the moderators about this Fitbit Pay issue which I haven't come across.. But an hour ago at Woolworths the Padlock unlock came up which I have only seen in the last 24 hours.. No issues, just slowed the impatient queue up at the self checkout..

The Fitbit Pay issue is important to me. I have a perfectly working Charge 2. I only upgraded to the Ionic because I wanted on board GPS and Fitbit Pay. SInce the update, one of the 2 key features i purchased it for isn’t working at all. I think there’s a bug in the firmware

For all of you in Australia, and if you have not already logged a Support case I would definitely do that..

If you go to the bottom of this topic view, tap the Help, and then tap Support and select Email us,  you will then have your issue documented.

If we are all running on the same Firmware level, and I'm having no issues it could be pointing to a factory build level and that can only be established by Fitbit Support.

You have nothing to lose but gain by submitting the Support case..

Also keep in mind we have a 2 year warranty period in Australia because our ACCC had Fitbit redefine our warranty conditions in case you are approaching what you think is a 12 month period.

Let's keep the action going because it surprises me that others aren't reporting the issues you are experiencing.

I’m commbank. So there are issues with 3 top banks. I’d probably say it’s the tech that isn’t quite good enough here.

I tried my watch yesterday at a coffeeshop that had updated to a new pay terminal and if it worked fine.

Westpac here.  I have my ANZ card on ApplePay, which works flawlessly. But Westpac on Ionic fails. Ionic vibrates when held next to the terminal, as if it is going to work. Then one of 2 things happen

 1) EFT terminal says the service is not available, but more commonly, its

2)  EFT terminal asks me to insert or swipe my card. The transaction then completes - but it’s hardly a contactless payment system if it only works if I insert my card.

I had already started an email case with support before I found this thread, but I’m still looking for solutions.

Interesting, this is exactly the same problem I have with the same bank.

I would be interested to see if the workaround I have found works, that is
trigger the PIN request by either taking off the watch or rebooting it.

Cheers,

No, that’s not solving it for me. I don’t want to cross post, so if you want to see what I’ve tried see here this thread

What you have achieved is exactly what I have achieved, FitBit Pay has
worked temporarily after you have put in your PIN. I don’t think anything
else you have done is relevant. I’d be interested to know if it works when
you trigger the PIN by just rebooting the watch or taking it off your
wrist.

@Robyn-TWRItem 2 in your post I find is the retailers with older equipment.. In Chemist Warehouse where I live, they have three terminals and my Ionic always works on one of them, the second one wants my card after tapping the Ionic and the third is hit and miss and the checkout staff are aware of the issues..  These terminals have the add-on tap feature fixed at the top of the terminal.. It feels like an after thought attachment..

In saying all of that, when I go to a retailer with the large tablet terminals (normally CBA), they work flawlessly.  Also the more positive smaller retailers who rely on tap, tap are upgrading their terminals gradually and they talk to me because I'm this "very Senior guy" they talk about who is using a watch to pay.

With your Support email I wouldn't let up. I keep replying in a positive way if I don't get action. We paid a lot for these watches  As I posted earlier I have no issues and just blame the terminals

@LowVibe75

No, sorry, but simply putting the code in after the failure is definitely not working for me. I’m glad it is for you. I would settle for that, as it’s a solution of sorts. Not ideal, but if that worked, I’d take it. But forcing an input of the PIN did t make it work. Shutdowns didn’t work. I got it to temporarily work for 24 hours after a factory reset. That’s the only time it worked again. Since then I reinstalled a third party clock face and immediately it failed. Subsequent forced PIN inputs didn’t work. Neither did subsequent shutdowns. I’ve just tried another factory reset, but have installed the 3rd party clock face. I’m off to the shops to test it.

Fair enough, good luck. Interesting about the watch face as that’s the
first thing I have been doing after all the resets and fiddling around as
well.

@Robyn-TWRThanks for the link to your other Forum Topic..

A great deal of effort there, and your delays are probably the effects of the Festive Season in the US and the one day lapse for your replies.

I just wish I could help more. Even the other day I even tried the tap facility on one of the new ANZ ATM's with no luck...I haven't followed that up with the ANZ, so I will just draw cash from Woolworths when I need it...

Problem is, I dont like any of the Fitbit clock faces as much, but if it ends up that’s what I need to make Fitbit Pay work, I’ll settle for one of them. It’s by no means 100% sure the 3rd party ones are the issue though.  I’m still testing my theory and hardly in a scientific setup.

@Robyn-TWR@LowVibe75My background is engineering and many years in IT and I always use the KISS principle, hence the Ace watch face and my only working 3rd party App is the Weather, I removed those that I wasn't going to use.  Maybe that's why I'm still using my Windows 7/64 Toshiba notebook. I let my wife worry about her Windows 10 PC and her iPads..

After years of Fitbit Community Forums there are many conflicting issues with too many 3rd party variables.

Maybe the times I turn off the Ionic so that I can sync my extra steps from my Fitbit One is a "refreshing" option for the Ionic..  I say that because in other Topic Forums users have corrected their issues by doing 3 consecutive restarts of the Ionic as directed by the Moderators...

I won't be out shopping in Melbourne today, already 35oC at Moorabbin Airport and heading towards 42oC in Melbourne....

So best of luck with your tests....and keep us posted....

3 in a row of successes. My son has been having the same issues as me & we’ve both been testing clock faces. What he found was the 3rd party clock face “Quick Stats” works with Pay, so long as you deny permission for the face to access the internet and location and do not activate the weather option. When he authorised those, it stopped working. When he deactivated weather & revoked the permissions,  it started working again.

So I used that clock face & followed his advice as to settings. 3 successful Pay transactions. 3 doesn’t translate to a definite solution, but I’m feeling hopeful.

Hey everyone! I appreciate the details that you've mentioned as well for troubleshoot that you've performed.

Since, some of you have mentioned that you're not always having issues with Fitbit Pay. Before, I share your post with our Support team, I would like you to confirm that you've tried the following troubleshooting:

- Check that they are no beeps at POS or the device can't communicate with the POS

If the payment terminal isn't recognizing Fitbit Pay:

- Make sure the merchant uses contactless payment methods

Make sure the watch face is near the reader and that the cashier knows you’re using a contactless payment

You must wear your watch on your wrist to make payments with Fitbit Pay

- If prompted, enter your 4-digit watch PIN code

- When the payment succeeds, your watch vibrates and you’ll see a confirmation on the screen

If you've checked the information above, then try this troubleshooting:

  • Uninstall card from wallet app
  • Uninstall wallet app
  • Delete Fitbit app
  • Shutdown my Ionic
  • Reinstall app
  • Reinstall wallet app
  • Re add my card
  • Restart my Ionic
  • Factory Reset

Let me know the outcome, I'll be around.

I have definitely done all these, most of them multiple times with no
success. As well as multiple factory resets. Other than working out I can
only use FitBit Pay if I can get my watch to ask for a PIN I haven’t been
able to get anywhere. Which is good to know, but not as per normal expected
operation.
