Fitbit ionic continuously fails to connect after entering 4 digit

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Device = Fitbit ionic

Phone OS= android 8.0

fitbit app version = 2.66

Problem:

I was having synch issues for my Fitbit ionic and took the step to remove the device from the app and attempt to reconnect from the start. However, even though it connects during the process, it continuously fails after entering the four digit PIN with error message "there was a problem communicating with your fitbit device ". I have tried deleting all current Bluetooth pairings, disable and reenable bluetooth adaptor , uninstalling and reinstalling the app, phone restarts , ionic device restarts but to no avail. The issue still persist. I also tried on an iPhone and the same issue occurs.

Clearly very frustrating experience . I have reviewed the relevant threads and tried some of the steps outlined above but no joy.

Anyone got any thoughts to share ?! Thanks in advance !

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Kfurs!  Thanks so much for already troubleshooting this issue, nice way to go! I totally understand your position my friend, I'll be do my best so we can sort this out! Woman Wink

While reading the steps you've attempted, I was wondering if you removed the tracker from your account only? If so, please go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and remove the tracker from there as well or double check if the Ionic is no longer showing up on your phone's Bluetooth settings.

Once you've made sure about that, go back to the Fitbit app, go to the "Account" option in the upper right corner and select "Set up a Device". This should start the setup process for your device. Smiley Very Happy

If you can't get started with your Fitbit device, usually a missing requirement is the cause. Carefully review the requirements below:

  • Note that you can't set up your Fitbit device from your phone's Bluetooth screen; you must open the Fitbit app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • The Fitbit app needs to be updated
  • The software on your phone is up to date. To see if an update is waiting to be installed:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your phone or tablet is on. To find it:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > Bluetooth.

If you're still unable to set up, try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone; wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Try setting up your device again.
  3. Restart Fitbit Ionic once again.
  4. Try setting up your device again.
  5. If you can't set up after a restart, reboot your phone or tablet (turn it off and then back on).
  6. Try setting up your device again.
  7. If you can't set up after the reboot, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app.

Give this a shot and let me know how it goes!

Hi there guys,

Sorry to be a pain but I am having the same problems with the connection after adding the 4 digit code.

I have tried all the steps suggested without success.

It pains me to say that this is the second Ionic I have tried and think that it may be time to say goodbye to fitbit. It is taking up too much of my time and definitely too much effort.

This is the last chance saloon so any help would be gratefully received.  Thanks

Hello,

In the end I needed to do a factory reset to fix the issue - not ideal but it worked. On the watch if you navigate to settings -> about -> factory reset....

The only thing I didn't try beforehand which I would suggest is to remove all the non Fitbit apps from the device and try the troubleshooting steps I mentioned before . I read a couple of related posts where it suggested removing the apps.may help (not sure why that would help but could be worth a try before going with the factory reset )

Thanks !
