Hi I have recently bought an ionic, when I go to bed I remove the watch but for some reason it is measuring a high heart beat during the night even though I am not wearing it. This can't be right is it?

No it isnt normal. The HR monitor should switch off after a few seconds. Check to see if the green lights keep flashing. Try restarting your tracker several times an bsee if that fixes it. If not, turn the Ionic off in settings for a few hours (settings app on the watch amd scroll down to About) and then press any button to turn it back on. That fixed mine when it was doing the same thing

Also, see in the settings if the HR is turned off. A couple of times, it turns off by itself it seems.
