This is coming from someone that has worked with Bluetooth for several years. I am constantly let down by the Bluetooth on these devices. If you choose to use the onboard storage you are going to be slapped in the face with the play quality to any Bluetooth headsets. The reason for all the issues with Bluetooth on fitbits is because they choose to use:
Bluetooth | Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy |
- iconic specs but also versa uses this
Low Energy should ONLY be reserved for small data packet transfers. Info that your Fitbit sends to the Fitbit app (steps, health stats, etc...) is perfect for a Bluetooth low energy or BLE connection. BUT, audio streaming and major data transfers require a strong consistent signal and large bandwidth, AKA High Energy Bluetooth. This is why your music crackles, speeds up, skips, etc, when working out at the gym or running. It is insane that Fitbit is using a BLE for both data and music.
I will not be supporting Fitbit anymore until this is resolved. I have wasted money on a versa and just now an iconic. If you are in the market for an onboard storage fitness watch, the iWatches and some of the garmens use the High energy. I prefer to stay away from apple but now I have to consider it.

@SunsetRunner It's nice to have you on board!
Thank you for your feedback about the bluetooth implementation on Fitbit devices. You can share your idea in our Feature Suggestions board. Search for the idea first to see if one already exists so you can add your vote. The more votes an idea gets the more likely the developers will try to implement it.
Let me know how it goes.
