I bought the Ionic for swimming and so I could use the GPS to track long walks. I haven't been able to find any way to tell the device to start the GPS at the start of a walk. The Exercise app only offers Run, not Walk; I've seen a few references to being able to select different exercises, including Walk, but I can't find anywhere on the Ionic itself nor in the app on my iPad, to add this or remove any unwanted exercises. The web site offers checkboxes for turning on the GPS for Running, Cycling, and Interval Training, but not Walking.
Am I missing something obvious, or is there no way to tell the Ionic to use GPS to track a walk except to tell it to use "Run"?

Hope I can explain this correctly, from the FitBit dashboard on your computer, go to the gear symbol at the top right of the screen, choose the Ionic tracker and click on it. Once you are in that section of the site, then you want to scroll down and choose Exercise Shortcuts. There you will find all of the exercise options, ie Hike, Walk, Bike, Yoga, etc.... You can arrange them in the order that they would most be used, 7 exercise shortcuts are allowed to be reflected on the Ionic in the order that you choose here in this website. Sync your Ionic then so that they will all show up in the order that you have requested, a bit tedious, but persevere, they will show up as soon as the Website syncs with your Ionic. You will also find a multitude of other options and preferences there as well, not a bad idea to check them out and change or modify what you want changed or modified.
Please note that you do need to go to the GPS option there on that same page to check that you want the GPS to be active for Hike, Walk, Bike, etc... it will not automatically do that, so you will have to check the little boxes to get it to bring up the GPS when you opt for a Hike, Walk or Bike on the Ionic screen. It is by default only showing on the Run and Bike I believe, can't remember what the other defaults are other than the Run Shortcut.
Now that I have this cranky little device working properly, the GPS was not working, had to do a factory reset (just got it yesterday, had to use the Blaze and my watch earlier today for a walk) I am going to try to get it to track a walk successfully, here's hoping LOL

I have the same problem. I bought the watch to track my walks and it wont work. I bought this model specifically for this reason. I feel like I've been ripped off.

@DrJanet98 Welcome. On your iPad/PC when you go into the settings for the Ionic you edit exercise shortcuts where you are allowed 7.

@Colinm39 Thank You, I was rather flummoxed by it yesterday, but proceeded to wade into it and figure it out, it has been a while since I set the Blaze and Charge HR up... The Ionic is not as intuitive as they are/were, but then again, it has more "things" associated with it in a very small package. Ought to be interesting to see how it develops over the next 2 years. I am kind of thinking that it was not ready for prime time when it was sent to market, but neither was the Blaze from what I experienced. Sigh, the new age consumer, the ultimate guinea pig.

Hi Roxie,
I've done all that you said here. Yesterday we went for a hike. 6.5 miles based on the trail maps and the Rangers who were there. My GPS said we hiked 3.5 miles. Can you help explain that? Thank you!
Amelia

I went through the process of your instructions again. Once I chose the activities I wanted, I had neglected to hit the save button. After I did that and went to the GPS section, walk was checked and said GPS on. My error, thanks for the help. It is working now!
