Gotta say I bloomin' loved the swimming activity

Went for a swim, didn't expect much to be honest (feels like we're all on a bit of a downer at the minute) but was very impressed.

I don't really understand the HR stuff when it comes back to the app, might be best to leave that out until it can track HR in water.

Once I dialled in the pool size (settings cog on the exercise screen) it worked flawlessly.  Tracked my laps and hence distance.

Nice, ta very much Fitbit.

Ionic has a whole bunch of potential and right now (for me) it's doing the core things right, HR is pretty good, better than the surge and blows the charge 2 out of the water.

GPS is about on par with connected GPS for me.  It a bit out but then its on a watch and pretty much matches my phone.

Those are the two biggies for me and it's ticked them off.  Now if the Android sync issue is sorted I'm a very happy boy.

Pity though..

* Can't see my heart rate on the swim app.

* Distance count is good but would like a pool length count.

* The HR graphs in the app only display when swim is set to automatic.

HR is pointless in swim so I ignore it.  I really don't know why it's there in the app afterwards.

I get lengths done on the watch while swimming so I'm happy with that.

Why is heart rate pointless in swim but .. say running isn't?

Not sure what you mean by "I get lengths done on the watch while I'm swimming".

Thx.

HR is pointless in swimming because the watch does not support it.  I don't know why they added it in the app afterwards when it's known not to work with the hardware.  Hence it is pointless.

When in a swim activity on the Ionic i go up the pool to one end, turn around and come back and it counts two lengths for me so I can see how many I've done.

Hope that explains

Thx

Imho if it's showing heartrate it's supporting it! Seemed fairly accurate looking at the graph.

Interesting I was using the swim app and I didn't see it count lengths just distance, I'll try again tomorrow.

The official user guide expressly says otherwise.

My default in settings, under Customise stats has pool length as the top stat by default.  Worked pretty well.  Sometimes it lagged trying to figure out turns by a lap or two but was correct at the end.

And yet it works with auto swim. I suspect the documentation needs updating.

Oh nice.  I've not tried auto swim.  Will give it a go at my next session.  I tend not to use auto anything because I want to log all structured workouts and use those as something to track training.

Hmm don't see "customize stats" anywhere on Android or web app. I do have the pool length set correctly. Oh well 🙂

It's on the watch.  Goto Exercise -> Swim -> Tap Cog -> Scroll Down
