Has anyone heard news on an Ionic 2 release?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I’m looking for something other than the typical tech blogs mentioning that it was in the works. Does any FitBit employees look at these posts?

I’m not looking for a release date persay, a general year/quarter would be awesome. Looking for confirmation post acquisition that it’s still on the way.

I know this sub is pretty harsh on them, but I’ve had the ionic for over 2 years and really enjoy it.

I work at a large retail chain that sells a lot of fitbits. I've been there for 6 months and I've sold zero ionics. As far as I know, the one we had when I was hired is still there, unless they sold it on my day off and got a new shipment also on my day off (highly unlikely) I don't think it's a popular model and I doubt they'll be continuing it, but we'll see. 9apps app cartoon hd

Well as an avid fitbit user I don't we will see anything being released till 2020 & I would rather wait it out since Google just purchased Fitbit this past week. I would expect some new products from the merger later in Q3 hopefully...

Next Google IO is probably when one will be released. Maybe if we are lucky a Fitbit device while under the Google roof and some integration from Google Fit and Wear OS. Pixel Watch I would guess would be the first Google branded Fitbit powered smart watch, so a year away. shareit app

I'd rather they got the current ionic to work more reliably, get all the features working and so it doesn't fail every few months before they come up with a new one, unless they plan to replace all existing ionics free of charge

Spoiler
I doubt there would be much appetite for a new ionic when the current one doesn't work properly and regularly fails.

id prefer to see the current one working properly first unless they plan to replace them all free of charge.

I would take a guess that Fitbit are putting more efforts in to the Versa 3 (if there is one) and will probably include GPS with it's next iteration. Like they did with the Charge 4.

And thus likely (sadly) kill off the clunky Ionic design.

@dhanushx012   @youhippy   The closest thing to a Fitbit release is a leak with pictures!  Check this out.  https://9to5google.com/2020/08/18/fitbit-versa-3-sense-smartwatch-leak/   Versa 3 is self explanatory.  The Sense sounds like it might be an Ionic successor.

Now we just have to wait for the official release and specs.  Then we will know for sure.

@LZeeW I just saw something on The Verge as well and came on here to post it, but you beat me to it!

I guess this is going to be the end of the Ionic?

All new trackers announced yesterday on Fitbit's instagram.

Hmmmm no Ionic 2.

The Versa 3 has everything that the Ionic has.

STILL NO OFFLINE SPOTIFY?!

There's really no telling given this odd release pattern, but if only a few changes are expected between the Charge 4 and 5, we might see this new Fitbit even sooner. That said, Google completed its Fitbit acquisition in January 2021, so a release date is basically up in the air at this point.

Hello @rareskyfive and welcome to the Help forum.  The Versa 3 is considered to be the Ionic replacement.  I don't believe there will be an Ionic 2.

The company recently unveiled the Fitbit Inspire HR and Fitbit Versa Lite, so it's unlikely we'll see it until at least the second half of 2019. The first Ionic was announced in August and shown off in September 2017, so it may be IFA 2019 when we hear about a new watch. mybkexperience mcdvoice
