Currently, order to start and stop exercises you have to do so using the touch screen.
It would be beneficial to be able to start and stop the exercises by the buttons on the right of the watch, versus via touch screen. The problem with only being able to start and stop the exercise by the touch screen is the fact that this is not functional during the colder weather, when the watch is covered by clothing or when the user is wearing gloves.
There is an exercise shortcut option to start an exercise with the left button, however this is not helpful when wanting to track distance because the exercise will start well before GPS is able to connected.
So please make it so that the buttons can be used to start and stop an exercise vs touch screen.

you'll never guess, but what youre asking for, is exactly how you operated the watch for exercise before the stupid update in December. i guess you could now put forward a feature suggestion, amass 10's of thousands of votes, wait 5 years and fitbit will announce it on their latest model launch.
For now though, if your ionic still works, youre lucky, many werent so lucky with the update as it trashed their watches

I think one of the reasons it was changed as many people complained that it accidentally got stopped by something hitting the button while they exercised
