How do I track a run with Strava?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I got my Ionic last night, took an hour to set up and get synching (probably deserves a separate post - seems I am not the only one with this hard-to-setup issue).

I want to go for my usual run today, but when you click on the Strava app, it tells me that I don't have any recorded runs and to go for a run, but does not offer a way to start recording.

Am I to assume that I track the run under Exercise -> Run and after the run it will sync over?
(I have had Strava Premium for some time and been trying to get reliable suffer scores from my Fitbit Blaze - but it could not connect to the phone more often than not).

How do I track a run on the Ionic such that it will go to Strava and give me heart rate and suffer score?

UPDATE:
My morning ride (@dbk2177 just as you mention, not auto detected but started manually as Bike ride) is now synced with Strava.
Strava web showed a notification saying "Your ride is now ready to be viewed".
So ultimately this has to do with a slow syncronization process. In my case it was 4 hours...

Glad to know it is working but I am hoping that we see a fix for this anytime soon.

My afternoon ride synced within minutes. No changes done.

I am happy to report that yesterday's afternoon ride and the morning ride today synced to Strava within minutes. Seems to be working now.

I'm having the opposite problem. It won't authorize from my android but it will from my ipad. Did yours work on the watch in the end? Mine still says no recent activity

1. If you are logging runs/rides with Ionic, then you should authorize Fitbit to send runs/rides to Strava. This only needs to be once. Use the Fitbit url https://strava.fitbit.com

Then verify using this url:

https://www.fitbit.com/user/profile/apps

or from Strava url at:

https://www.strava.com/settings/apps

Authorize once, and then runs/rides will sync to Strava. Use the Strava app or website to verify your rides/runs are syncing.

2. Now that you have runs/rides in Strava, authorize the Ionic app:

2.1 Open the Fitbit app, and tap or click the Account iconUser-added image and your Ionic image.

2.2 Look down the list for Strava and tap or click the gear icon User-added imageYou may need to scroll down to find the app.

2.3 Tap Authorize and follow the instructions on-screen to log in to your account and authorize the connection.

2.4 Sync your watch to see your recent activity in the Strava app

UPDATE 4:

Sync with Strava still works fine and is done within minutes (from activities on Ionic). However, the Strava app in the Ionic does not sync fast. That is still very slow, as much as the next day delay.

@bbarrera after a few more runs I can confirm that some activities will fail to sync with Strava if they tracked with both Ionic and Strava app. I tried to import manually some of the failed runs and Stava show a duplicate activity error. Removing the duplicate from Strava allows for the manual import of the same run.

I use the strava safety beacon facility which means I am forced to track using the ionic and strava phone app. Seems abit of a waste .

I am able to get all this information from the Fitbit Exercise app. It seems the Strava app is useful to take a quick look at previous activities.

Strava app on Ionic only syncronizes when notifications from phone are set to "Receive from phone"

Yep, same issues.  I do everything on Strava so this is much more than a nuisance.

Having just authorized my Strava account via the fitbit app it still does not hold so every time you want to look at the runs via the Ionic you have to reauthorize Strava Anyone any ideas on how to get it to remain permanently authorized

Hard to say, have you contacted Fitbit support? On the Fitbit app developer forum there is mention of a bug in the Fitbit app that could be causing the problem. It might be that, or you might be able to fix by simply deleting the Fitbit app from your phone and reinstalling.

I finally got fed up with trying to get the strava app to record runs and sync, so I contacted fitbit about that and several other issues with my new ionic. I returned it for a new one and the new one seems to be working just fine right out of the box! Let's hope it lasts.

Despite accounts being liked (authorized), FitBit and Strava are not syncing. It did for first few days and stopped. Any ideas?

I had to contact fitbit to have them address the issue. Ended up returning my fitbit for a new one. No problems, so far, with the new one when syncing to strava.

hi - my ionic and strava are connected and runs are appearing in both fitbit and strava apps and browser pages BUT nothing shows up on the ionic under strava - just says "No recent activity" and "record a run to see a list of your recorded activities here"... I have 7 recorded runs since synching but nothing on the device itself.  Is there a reboot required or something wrong here?  Thanks

Hey there @IainCostes, it's nice to see you around the forums! Smiley Very Happy Well, since you own a Fitbit Ionic, use the Strava app on your watch to see your last 10 run, bike, and swim exercises tracked by Strava.

Go to strava.fitbit.com to setup auto syncing Fitbit runs to Strava. The Ionic's Strava app is for a quick look at previous runs, and comparing your previous times on a certain segment.

No need to have the mobile device with you when running apps, as they work as standalone apps on the watch (you don't track it with Strava, you track it on the Ionic).

Hope this helps!

Thanks
