Yes my computer and phone are connected to wifi. When I go into settings alp on the watch under the about tab it tells you all the details of the watch it also says wifi off

But have you checked the Fitbit app to see if ionic has had its WiFi setup?

Where do I see that in the app? When I select the Ionic from settings on the fit bit app and scroll down to Wifi setup I get "We were not able to find or connect to your Ionic" and this I assume is because when I look at settings on the watch as I mentioned earlier it says Wifi Off?

This message is because the app is having trouble communications with the watch through Bluetooth. Wifi is not used for any communication between the phone and the ionic.
Do you get any notifications or are able to add apps to the ionic?

@Danselme I'm not sure what the issue isyour Ionic or what it has to do with turning Wifi on/off, unless your ionic is being charged wifi is off.
I'd your asking for help please stay a new thread.
Thanks

What type of updates age are talking about @Danselme?
Music, firmware, settings, App updates, installing apps, or simply having issues with syncing.
Music and apps can be updated through wifi while the ionic is charging.

Your fitbit connects to the Wi-Fi not your phone

@csilva2266 for syncing the ionic connects to the phone. App and ionic firmware updates may be done through the phone or WiFi. Music has to be done through the WiFi.
WiFi will only be turned on while the ionic is charging.

Why not use WiFi for syncing?
Is a user always nearby a secure Wi-Fi that does not require a log in?
Also the user would need to take the tracker off their arm, stick it into its charger and plug it into a power source to enable WiFi.
Would not Bluetooth be easier?

Which setting are you looking for @Mammabakes?
If it is the WiFi setting you are asking about?
Attach charging cable to ionic.
Plug charging cable in
Ionic's WiFi will turn on.
Unplug charger.
Ionic's WiFi will be turned off.

Well I have been trying that on multiple subnets and hotspots for over two years now and the Ionic never even sees a WiFi network regardless of what device I use to initiate, iPhone 7 Plus, several pc’s iPad Pro etc. on the iPad it gives the option of manually entering the WiFi 2.4 networks and it still doesn’t find any even with the watch inches from a router.

Hello @gherman22 you have been trying to turn on wifi? Or turn it off?
It sounds like your asking the unrelated question of connecting the versa to a WiFi.
Is your phone connected to the wifi?
Is the Ionic plugged in and charging?
Is the WiFi 2.4 ghz?
No need to log into WiFi?

It sounds like your asking the unrelated question of connecting the versa to a WiFi.
This thread is about connecting an Ionic to WiFi, not a versa.
I have never been successful since I bought it two years ago. I have always needed to use Bluetooth for firmware updates. However that doesn’t seem to be working with the current update either.
I open dashboard and it looks for my Ionic. When it finds the Ionic I am prompted to update the firmware. I click or select the option and the app goes into a “Do not turn off dashboard while your tracker is updating” then it goes into searching for wifi mode for several minutes. And says “select a wifi network” after several minutes it comes back with the message “no wifi network found” on my IOS devices it prompts me to manually add a network but when I enter the SPID and password it still doesn’t find it. When I check wifi status on the Ionic it say Wifi off and there doesn’t seem to be a way on the Ionic to turn it on. (To check wifi status on the watch you open settings, about and it shows the MAC address, scroll down to IP address and it shows status off)My understanding is that the app is supposed to turn on wifi on the tracker but it doesnt’t. After several retries on Wifi I select Bluetooth. And it goes into an updating mode and just stays there. Currently it has been running overnight with the progress bar stopped about 2/3rd of the way across but if I attempt to cancel it prompts me to continue but nothing changes.
Is your phone connected to the wifi?
For the last 48 hours I have been attempting to update my firmware via two computers running Windows 10, an iPad Pro, and an iPhone 7 Plus. All connected to a 2.4 subnet less than ten feet away. The Ionic doesn’t see any As I said in my statement I followed all the procedures in the “solved” section. I have rebooted everything including the router several times. I have been doing software and hardware support for over 30 years, that is the first troubleshooting step for everything. The second is to pair and unpair and make sure to forget any pairing on any device other than the one I am attempting the update with, the third is to remove from account then re-add the device I have done all three steps several times. The only thing I haven’t done is a factory reset.
Is the Ionic plugged in and charging? Yes and battery is at 100%
Is the WiFi 2.4 ghz? I have 4 2.4ghz networks that every other device I own finds without fail including my TV’s and TV boxes.
No need to log into WiFi? Yes, I am logged in on all my devices except the watch which shows wifi off these are WAP2 nets, supposedly supported but the tracker doesn’t even find them
