Although the music transfer is conducted via WiFi, you will need a Bluetooth connection with your laptop and ionic to use the software

Thanks for the information. I will have to find out exactly which one to buy and the capabilities required. Not going to buy the fitbit one, I have spent enough money. I would have thought that this would have been any easy set up but it is proving to be a painfully long process and out of my tech abilities. I have had the ionic for 3 months and still haven't managed to get music on it. Should have spent half the money and just used my phone for music because I cant use streamed music anyway and stuck with itunes. Sorry about the rant.  Thanks for the reply

I can see that you're already familiarized with the steps to download music to your Ionic. As @SunsetRunner mentioned the music is transferred via Wifi but you're still need the Bluetooth to connect with your computer. I totally understand your frustration to this matter, if you're getting trouble I recommend checking the  Why can't I download music and podcasts to my Fitbit watch? article, this has been useful for many users.

This is frustrating. I am trying to put music on my ionic from my desktop computer, with no bluetooth but am unable to. I don't seem to be able to do it from my phone, either. And my laptop is a work laptop with no ability to install desktop applications. So with a phone, laptop, home pc, USB cable, wifi network, and a wired network, I'm still unable to put music on my fitbit.

Hi Hugh,
I ended up buying a Bluetooth dongle for laptop and it worked well. I
didn't buy the fitbit one, just one on ebay ($14 ).

Transferred easily then.
Good luck

Question:

what do I have to be connected with:

- bluetooth: iphone to mac book?

- transfer cable: ionic to mac book?

- wifi: all three devices?

what exactly is necessary for this to work?

Hi @Robleee, thanks for jumping in here! Answering your questions:

- Bluetooth: On your Macbook. In order to transfer music you need a computer. While during the transferring procedure, turn off the Bluetooth on your iPhone.

- Transfer cable: Ionic to your Macbook.

- Wi-Fi: To download personal music and podcasts, your watch and computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

If you followed the steps in How do I listen to music and podcasts on my Fitbit watch? but you can't download playlists to your watch using the Music app, try the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon > your watch tile.
  2. Tap or click Wi-Fi Settings.
  3. Make sure your watch and computer are connected to the same network. To see which network your computer is on, click the Wi-Fi symbol on your screen.
  4. If your watch and computer are connected to different networks, manually connect your watch to the same network as your computer. Return to the Wi-Fi settings screen in the Fitbit app, tap the network name, and tap Connect.
  5. Open the Music app on your watch and then tap Transfer Music to try again. Note that it may take up to a minute for your playlists to appear on your computer's screen.

If you still have trouble downloading your playlists, complete the steps below:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone; wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Sync your Fitbit watch with your dashboard:
    1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon > your device image.
    2. Tap or click Sync Now and wait a few moments for your watch to sync.
  3. Restart your watch by holding the back (left) and bottom buttons until you see the Fitbit logo.
  4. Open the Music app on your watch and then tap Transfer Music
  5. Remove all other Fitbit devices from your account and try again to download your playlists. For Windows 10, don't minimize the window until the transfer is complete.

Your watch only stays in transfer mode for a few minutes. If you took a few extra minutes to choose your playlists, restart the download if you don’t see “Use your computer to start transferring music” on your watch's screen. To do so, tap Transfer Music on your watch again and wait a few moments for the download to start. For best results, plug your watch into the charger before downloading music.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

After reading most of the posts on the help forum regarding downloading from Pandora Premium to the Fitbit Ionic and attempting all of the solutions presented, I have determined that I have wasted $300.00.  Th  entire reason I wanted the Fitbit was for the battery life and the ability to listen to music while working out without the need to carry my phone.

This very expensive watch (which by the way requires to be synced to something to even change time zones but includes a GPS tracker to count steps....WTF?) will NOT connect to a Pandora account.  Do  NOT waste your money.  I now have a $300 dollar digital watch.  kinda funny since digital watches were the big thing in 1985.  Had one then and even the stopwatch was easier to use.  This thing is useless.

Sincerely,

Extremely disappointed.

You dont need bluetooth on a laptop/desktop pc to sync music...

Use the phone app to add the wifi access point to the ionic

go to music app on ionic and hit transfer music

install the desktop app and select music to transfer, the app will find the device on your network

Giampi71 is correct. It just needs to be on the same wifi connection... if your device can get past setup and configure it.

Me too.

I've had this stupid thing for 3 months and still cant get music on to it.

I have been fiddling with computers for over 40 years and this is the first device I could not get to work.

ITS A JOKE !!!..... FitBit should remove the Music "ability" - It is tantamount to a lie.
