I wasn't wearing my Ionic but it knew my steps

So this morning I was charging my Ionic, and then left for a walk, forgetting that it was still at my house.  I had my phone with me.  I just logged on to the Fitbit app on my computer to manually put in my steps, only to find out that it somehow calculated my steps - perhaps through my phone app?  I'm totally shocked and confused.  I've never seen this happen ...

If you took your phone with you, then MobileTrack filled in for missing Ionic. That's just theory.

Hi @kpap2860, welcome to the community.

I think what you are seeing may be a bug, I experienced similar myself once before. I would first suggest restarting your Ionic which you can do by following the instructions here. I would also ensure that you put your Ionic on a flat vibration free surface whilst on charge so that it doesn't confuse any vibrations for steps.

That’s what I was thinking, but have never seen this in the past... Happy that I didn’t “lose” my step count 😊

Hi - thank you
I don’t have a bug
I had allowed Mobile Track on my Fitbit app, and so it tracks steps and distance without wearing the actual Fitbit device.
I do appreciate your help

@kpap2860, @N8teGee did not say that you have a bug,, the post that was printed to is off users who watch their steps increasing while the unit is on a table. This is the big being referred too.

Yes as @Rich_Laue mentioned, I was referring to an issue some users have reported where the device would count steps whilst on charge. The difference here though is it would happen even if the user didn't have mobile track enabled.

@kpap2860 I'm glad you got to the bottom of it though. Feel free to browse the community and other discussions, the Lifestyle discussion forums are a great place to start to meet fellow like minded fitbitters Smiley Happy

Thank you for your help.  I think I was a little confused with the
original email, but now I know what you are talking about.

I'm pretty sure it was the Mobile Tracking, which I didn't really know
existed until yesterday.  I must say, that's a great feature.

Thanks again for your time and effort.
