My Iconic was fully charged in the morning, worked all day, I took a shower and now it is not working. Nothing is happening. I tried cleaning, restart, and charging again. This fitbit is about 18 months old. Please help!

Hi,

I am in the same boat except my fitbit is less than 6 months old: the FB itself is OK but, once I let it "update" last week, its not synching with my iphone (my Iphone cannot detect any bluetooth signal from it)

I even bought a replacement Ionic on the weekend but it went through the same update & now it will not work either...

I complained to Fitbit & it now looks like they have "black-listed" my phone number!!!

I would think 18 months is the average life span of Ionic. I can't believe Ionic 2 isn't yet available when many Ionic are already dead.

For me, mine is working but the left button has stopped working after a few swimming. In my experience, it looks like Ionic loses water proof after a few months of usage.

Mine has never been in contaxct with water so do not know what it is from...

Your not alone! Mine died over a week ago after 18 months. Still waiting for a response from Fitbit customer service.

After a couple of rounds of suggestions from Fitbit support for reset and factory reset, they just confirm my Ionic is out of warranty.

To add more salts, they send me a link to fitbit store to purchase a new fitbit.

From the time Fitbit App 3.1 was released by Fitbit Ionic stopped syncing.

Tried all the Bluetooth OFF/ON and iPhone restarts and Fitbit Ionic restarts and then uninstalled the App to no avail. When I retried setting up the device as a new install,  the 'Connecting to Fitbit' message appeared but would ultimately get 'Something went Wrong - error trying to pair your device'.

FIXED IT BY:

1. Updating to Fitbit App V3.2

2. Doing a Factory Reset on the Fitbit Ionic from the watch settings

3. Full reinstall with Fitbit Ionic plugged into charger and connected to WiFi for internet data.

30mins duration.

.

Nothing worked until the Ionic factory reset was performed. Good Luck.

That's what they're trying to tell me

Sadly I tried the factory reset while still on 3.1. The update failed and bricked the Ionic. Glad to hear 3.2 corrected the bugs. Hope FitBit will send me a replacement so I can start again.

For anyone with this issue:

Is your Ionic logo continuously appearing and not booting up?

Does your Ionic just not sync? Are some of the apps messed up too?

Here's the diagnosis:

Your Ionic's firmware (or internal software) was damaged during one of the recent software updates to the Fitbit app. This means that is not able to perform "basic" tasks like starting up or syncing.

Here's the fix:

  1. If you haven't already, shut down the Ionic by going to Settings, scrolling down, and clicking Shut Down.
  2. Once it is shut down (a black screen), when you click the main left button, you should see the Fitbit logo appear in the middle of the screen for about 10 seconds.
    1. If this logo then goes away for about 5 seconds, reappears, and continues to appear and disappear with similar time in between, then your Fitbit is trying to boot up and cannot. It has a firmware issue. Please continue to read #3.
    2. If the above does not happen and your Ionic boots up normally (you see the watch face you set it to), shutting down the device fixed the problem.
  3. You now need to perform a factory reset. Before you do that, make sure that the app is updated to the latest version at this time as well. To perform a factory reset, follow these instructions: https://factory-reset.com/wiki/Ionic
    1. More specifically with this issue... The factory reset will not work for almost every person the first time you try it. This is because you are trying to do it during the booting of the Ionic and your Ionic is not programmed to look for factory resets during boot - only when it is shut off. You know that the Fitbit is shut off when the screen is completely black (no backlight or fake blackness) and there is no Fitbit icon. In between attempts of your Ionic trying to start up (or the black screen), you need to press all of the buttons to begin the factory reset. This is done best immediately after the Ionic icon disappears on trying to boot. After doing this, once you see the Fitbit icon appear and disappear once more. Release the bottom right button when it disappears. If the Ionic vibrates a few seconds after this, then release all buttons. Your factory reset is successful! You should now see a red X and a message stating something like: "Data not cleared Sync again".
    2. If this does not work the first time, continue attempting to factory reset in between the Ionic trying to boot (the black screen). If you have succeeded, please proceed to #4.
  4. Your fitbit is now factory reset and you can begin using it normally. Please make sure the Ionic is removed from your account. If it is not, you will not be able to set it up (I tried this. You will just get a continuous "Setting up tracker..." message). If it is removed from you account and you have the red X, set up your Ionic like the first time you got it. Your issue should now be fixed!

HEY FITBIT!

It doesn't seem that you have acknowledged this issue to any of your customers and have only gave them instructions to do the usual "shut down, remove from device, make sure it's charged" deal. It seems that hundreds of customers have this issue and you only recently fixed it by stating the usual "*Bug fixes and performance improvements" in the App Store. Not addressing this issue specifically is a sign of poor customer service. Please change your methodology.

Hi! My Fitbit also just stopped working. I have tried cleaning, restarting and even factory resetting.  Resetting does nothing since it wont charge! Very frustrating as I've had several fitbits and this is the first time one has just randomly stopped working!!

Yeah going with Apple Watch this time around thought the Fitbits were better but I have had to replace them for years and they always brake just out of warranty or  worse Fitbit keeps replacing them till you go out of warrenty happed with my one before the iconic. Anyway the iconic just broke 19 months. Nothing I did to it just got an update and the screen would pixelate sometimes out but than come back to normal after a restart or even just changing screens. Anyway now it will not do anything but stay black or backlight with nothing on the screen. I’m done, wife’s Apple Watch 2 years old and working great. Cheeped in the long run than buying a Fitbit every year.
