Inaccurate Heart Rate on StairMaster

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

When I am on the stairmaster, my ionic does not accurately track my heart rate. It had me at 90-110 bpm when I was at 165-180 for 25 minutes straight. It also didn’t count steps accurately at all. What’s the deal?

You'll find complaints all over on this forum about that, and sheepish replies from the FitBit team about it.

I think the Ionic HR reading technology is just not suited to intense workouts. It seems to do OK for resting heart rates and sleep detection, but if you do things that get you above 120 bpm, other than running (which has its own issues in the opposite direction because of the arm swinging probably), it will NOT be even close in my experience. Various chest bands and manual checks show I'm 145+ during a hard workout, and the Ionic never gets above 115. I think the FitBit "team" realizes that their hardware just doesn't cut it for these situations but they don't really want to admit it directly for their flagship device.

What they probably need to do is develop a chest band to work with it for intense activity, or make it compatible with existing chest bands out there.

I've had two Charge 2s and now a Versa 2 and they have all done this.  Heart rate waaay too low on the stairmaster.
