Inaccurate steps from overnight while sleeping

After spending an hour on the phone with Mateo I've been told that even though the Fitbit was on the charger and added itself 24000 steps there is no way possible that they can be removed. I'm in a competition worth a great prize with many people in my company and now I'm going to be disqualified. Wondering if I should just convert to Apple watch. I can't believe such a large company that I have been working with for 4 years and been so happy with service i e Fitbit cannot fix such a simple issue to remove steps I'm not even trying to add them I want them removed so I can be in a Fair competition so very frustrating. Can anyone help this frustration it doesn't even show the steps over the hours of last night 12 to 5 a.m.

This is a temporary fix, since I do not know how to provide you with a solution. You can go into the exercise tile in the Fitbit app, click on the gear on the top right corner, and there are two options. TRACK or LOG . Select Log, and type in "Driving". Then, select the duration of the time it was counting steps, like if you started charging at 12:01 and select it for however long it was counting steps(7 hours). Try a restart if this problem persists, if restarting does not work, contact Fitbit Support. Only Factory Reset as a Last Resort.

I tried that and it didn't work part of the reason is is that there's no
activity to delete for some odd reason when charging it added the 24000
steps but there was no activity. If I factory reset at this point it will
lose 10,000 steps that I actually got working out. I contacted Fitbit and
they were no help at all they initially had me set it up for sleep for the
6 hours it did nothing to the total and then I tried driving and it did
nothing to the total either. It's very frustrating because I am in a
competition with coworkers and I'm pending disqualification.

I'm just making sure, but have you actually logged a driving exercise after discovering the extra steps? Let me know and hopefully I will try to get this resolved.

Think carefully about a reset.  I did it today and it took me nearly 6 hours to get it up and running again--problems updating, problems syncing, etc.  Now something weird is going on,  Over the last two hours my steps have been going up and down to under a couple hundred to over 8000, back to under 200, then back to 8000+;  Right now it says 720 and two periods of activity have gone away.

Hi @Jillccc

You're so right. Unless Fitbit customer support suggests and guides someone through the process, then it shouldn't be done.

There are all sorts of web sites where people post how to articles, but not everything out there should be done. Many things people do, outside of Fitbit support's guidance, could lead to additional problems and even invalidating the warranty.

That sad thing for me was that I WAS told to do a reset by Fitbit support.
He said it was the only thing I could do before doing anything else (I
presume he meant replacement). Today's Fitbit support person, however,
said it probably wasn't necessary for me to have done that. So I'm not too
high on Fitbit support right now. Just thought I'd share the caution about
the factory reset.

@Jillccc Unless you where told specifically to do a factory reset then it probably was a restart that was suggested . Note that no reset will affect the past days .

@CUL8R if I go back to this post iwhere you say that there was no data recorded on the day., but that the tracker has steps counted .This usually happens when the steps are not reset at midnight, usually because the tracker is turned off or the user switched timezones around midnight.

Yes, was told specifically a factory reset. (It seems not uncommon that
folks seem to suggest we users are doing the wrong thing on our own.
Perhaps, then, there shouldn't be an active community help forum that we're
encouraged to visit.) I didn't do it for several weeks anticipating it
would be a pain (and it was). (This) Agent said it was the only next thing
to do as all other trouble shooting had been done multiple times.
Yesterday's agent said it probably wasn't necessary. Yet another reason
(inconsistent directions) that I am annoyed with fitbit.
