Ionic Battery Drain Stats

Using the Run Exercise Mode with Pause on

GPS on and connected full time

HRM on center screen

Distance on top

Elapsed time on bottom

Screen ON full time

Music playing full time

Bluetooth connected full time

77% Start for 2 Run exercises

To 59% = 18% over 36min = around 1/2% per min

To 48% = 11% over 20min = around 1/2% per min

So 29% over 56min = around 1/2% per min

So Ionic should last about 3hrs from a 100% full charge

Personally have needed to charge the Ionic every single day

As the GPS and Music and Screen Always ON drains the battery

Have tried the Screen Raise to view -> but like Always ON better

Is much easier to view when doing intervals and working out

Overall the Ionic has performed more consistently today

But there still are concerns about random crashing

Other concerns have been noted to Tech Support

This is a real world use general interest post using the Ionic as noted

If Screen Raise to view is used instead -> would expect less battery drain

These results are from an Ionic purchased last month on the .19 firmware

Hope this helps confirm battery drain concerns to Fitbit and others

Really there is no need to suffer in Frustration - simply call Tech Support at 877-623-4997 and get your Ionic replaced right now while you can
Many have followed this straightforward advice and now have a replacement Ionic - we all should have “zero tolerance” for any defective Ionic

Hey Whistler,

I’m having the Ionic for a year and half and never had any issues.

I created a couple of day ago a post myself as well as the battery is completely drained in just over a day by only just wearing it and doing my daily thing. This is indeed since the last firmware update a couple of days before that. I used to be able to wear it for 5 to 6 days without recharging.

I only got a tip on how to charge your Fitbit from one of the moderators around here.

A whole lot of money to have it in the bin after a year and half

Would suspect my “normal usage” is at or near maximum battery drain on the Ionic.

Understood from Tech Support that .24 firmware has only gone out to about 10% of users.  So kinda are like beta testers before sending out to the masses.  If yours is now .24 vs the previous .19 -> that may possibly explain your drop in battery life from 5-6 days down to just over a day.  If yours is .19 then have no explanation other than to refer your concerns to Tech Support.

Because I often use the Ionic standalone -> with exercise GPS HRM Music and Screen ON near daily -> the battery drains very quickly.  If it got 10 hrs that would be fantastic.  But reality is the battery only lasts about 3 hrs.

So Fitbit should advertise this more accurately.  Personally was expecting 10 hrs with GPS and everything functioning at max.

Maybe the advert should say the full battery charge with GPS -> ranges btwn 3-10 hrs depending on variables like HRM and playing Music and Screen ON full time.  That would be more accurate and realistic for consumers.  So am a bit let down having to charge the Ionic as much as I do.  But it is what it is.

GPS unfortunately drains any device.  Some faster than others.  Sounds like your problem is a bit different however.

Thanks for your comments Silvia.  For me -> GPS and music go hand in hand whenever outdoors.  Before used my phone with music and an upload to Strava.  Now use my Ionic with music -> and the Fitbit link to Strava.  Either method goes to Strava so am happy about that.  Having Strava integrated in some way was a priority in my Ionic purchase decision.

Just got back in and can provide some more battery stats for those interested.  Especially those that like longer timespan distance runs like marathons etc.

Using the Run Exercise Mode with Pause on

GPS on and connected full time

HRM on center screen

Distance on top

Elapsed time on bottom

** Screen Raise to View **

Music playing full time

Bluetooth connected full time

77% Start for 1 Run exercise

To 52% = 25% over 1.5hrs

So Ionic should last about 6hrs from a 100% full charge

Or about “twice as long” vs with Screen ON full time

For me this battery life would suffice for most exercises

This info should help answer GPS battery drain queries
