Ionic Black Screen and Will Not Start Up

It seems to be a lot of people with the same problem as of recent. My Ionic quit receiving notifications and then at midnight it would erase the previous day stats from my phone app (It said it was syncing) and I started to look back at the app and the last saved date was 02/05. I also seen there was an automatic update on 02/04. Customer Service says that is not the problem, But my watch was working fine up to that point. I decided to uninstall everything from the phone and factory reset the Ionic and everything was going fine and halfway through the install the watch shut off and that is when my Ionic died. Have not been able to reset/start it since then. Called Customer Service and the person could see I tried everything they would suggest to fix it. So the only option was to offer me 40% off with FREE expedited shipping. I decided to think about it and I went to Best Buy and low and behold They have sold a ton of Galaxy Watches to People like me (YES, I am wearing one right now) due to this recent problem. I have up to 30 days to return it if I dont like it. But so far that does not be the case. Fitbit has not convinced me that this is not a software update issue that caused this. The coincidence of so many other people having the same problem in the same time range......Well enough said. My Galaxy Watch tells me to go for a walk.

@OferGrosz Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for sharing the experience you have had with Ionic and customer support. It's unfortunate to read that you decided not to get a Fitbit.

Thanks for posting your feedback on this thread. It is very important for Fitbit to improve their customer experience.

Regarding the cause of this, did customer support told what was it?

Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Have a great day! Smiley Happy

No they did not tell me what caused this to happen if that is what you are asking.

Thank you

I DID NOT MARK THIS AS A SOLVED SOLUTION!!! Nothing has been solved yet. I will return my Galaxy Watch and get another Ionic when fitbit can own up to this recent issue. Why would I buy another Ionic not knowing what will happen in 14 months again. And I really liked my Ionic, But not enough to buy another one without why mine and so many others died in the same time period.

My ionic has the same problem...

I had the exact same issue happen this week. My ionic was only 14 months old. Fitbit offered the same deal of 40%, but why?!?!?! I just wasted $300, and now I should waste another $160?!?!?!  Considering going to the Galaxy too.

This issue happened to me today. My Ionic just died for no apparent reason. I saw your post because I was trying to figure out what went wrong.

This also happened to my ionic this pst week. I thought it had low battery so I charged it. It still wouldn’t turn on after but in the app it showed it at 100% and synced after I put it on the charger. Both the screen and HR sensors are off, and it was almost 14 months exactly for me as well. I’ve had similar things happen to my previous devices from Fitbit. Like you, not sure I feel comfortable getting another one anymore. Time to go to Apple Watch for me.

My ionic has just died too - it started with syncing issues and eventually after trying everything else, I had to do a factory reset. Partway through the reset the screen went black and that was the end of that ......

surely this must now be a recognised issue with the ionic as mine is only 16mths old - similar to most of the others on this thread ??

have they rectified the issue ??

Scratch one more Ionic.

Had no idea how bad this issue was until mine went wrong yesterday after just 4 months of use.

I have the same issue that my Ionic will not turn back on. Tried all the restart methods and nothing working.

I am new to fitbit and not very impressed at the moment.

Have emailed support using the online form. It says the estimated response is 2 days but they could at least send an automated response with a ticket number so you know your message has been received

I have nothing else to add other than my Ionic watch has also been bricked by the update and we have matching ginger cats as avatars 🙂

Seriously though, WTF Fitbit???

Add another one to the list! Was working completely fine after an early morning pool swim, and then at some point after 1030am (last sync) it bricked it. Thought it was just flat and I hadn’t noticed, but App still says it’s ‘orange’ and I was pretty sure it was around 70%. I’m at the 14 month mark. 😑

Same here, took my watch off last night woke to a blank screen. Totally disappointed and by the sounds of it Fitbit are just fobbing it off and offering discounts instead sorting the problem. I will be ringing them tomorrow to see if they help and will keep you posted.

Are Fitbit actually looking at these forums and taking notes or just ignoring it !?

Has Fitbit done anything to anyone other than offer 40% off?  Mine died too after less than 2 years and I want to know if its worth my while to go after them.

They offered me 40% off the next purchase. I told them I wasn't spending
any more money with Fitbit. A $270 watch should last for years.

I tried calling again for a deeper discount, siting multiple people having the same issue. They said 40% was the best they could do. I noticed the prices have dropped $50 since early April. I suckered into the Addidas edition hoping it is different enough to have better luck. I felt sentenced to Fitbit since I have the Aria scale. (Backward thinking. I know).

Mine bricked last week, I had just got it from Amazon in early January, by February it was already acting wonky, wasn't logging my sleep automatically, had to go on the app and tell it roughly what time I thought I went to bed and woke up and it would then analyze but that defeats the purpose. Then I left for work with a fully charged watch and when I went to look at it to check my step count before lunch it was just that boot up screen coming on and off and on again. Did everything they suggested to reset it and nothing. I am guessing that until they take some responsibility for this issue and dedicate some resources into finding out how their engineers screwed the pooch on this lemon, come up with a fix, and make sure it goes out to EVERY current owner they will just continue to brick and become more toxic waste for the landfills.

Mine has done exactly the same, stopped syncing a few days ago after an app update. So I bit the bullet tonight and did a full reset. Once the firmware had updated, the screen went green then blank and since then nothing, can't get it to wake up .....totally pi$$ed off with all the issues over time with this and precious fitbits. Need to move to a decent tracker if anyone has any pointers, needs to have gps & HR for my cycling

Fitbit replaced my ionic with no problem once I contacted customer support.

Has anyone tweeted to Fitbit with their problem? It helped me tremendously.

Just a suggestion...
