Fitbit Update: 12/05/2017

We've just rolled out new firmware for Ionic to 100% of users! This firmware update includes:

NEW APPS AND CLOCK FACES

This Fitbit OS update provides access to new apps and clock faces from Fitbit, Fitbit Labs, popular brands, and developers. The apps span a range of categories such as Flipboard, The New York Times, and Yelp. New apps and clock faces will be added frequently. Browse the available apps in the Fitbit App Gallery.

For more information, see How do I install and manage apps on my Fitbit watch?

FITBIT LABS

We’re introducing Fitbit Labs, which develops experimental apps and clock faces for Ionic. Install an app or clock face to motivate you to stay active, help track and interpret your behavior, and provide intelligent feedback. Choose to adopt a virtual pet and use your steps to keep them fed and happy with one of the FitPet interactive clock faces, or install the Think Fast app and test your ability to rapidly and accurately switch between tasks. Check back often for new apps.

For more information, see What is Fitbit Labs?

FITBIT PAY

Now you can add up to 6 credit and debit cards to Fitbit Pay on Ionic and choose which card you want to use for each transaction. When you’re ready to pay, swipe right on your watch’s screen to scroll through your cards.

Note this feature is coming soon to the Fitbit app for Windows 10.

I did mine via bluetooth. It too probably 20 minutes. It was 11pm here so I then went to bed wondering what I got in the new update. So now I know! And it synced really quickly this morning which is very unusual.

Woooo! i'm impressed so far..

- nice to know i can remove Coach off the watch

- the new apps are decent, i see the potential... Yelp, NY times, Flipboard... some little games, and productivity ones.

- the new clockfaces i like.. Right now i'm using one that maximizes the screen with information. I'll look into the fitbit labs.. with cute dogs and kitties to give treats to (From what i read, you have to keep adding steps to unlock treats for the day, cute idea.)

Very glad it seems people are making apps for it though it still needs to link my Amazon Music!! (ya'll hear me...pleeaaassee)

i use this clock  face... the higher your heartbeat, the more of the circle will light up... so it being down there is probably quite normal.

Did they address sync and notification problems? Nowhere in the bug list mentioned these 2. These are basic stuffs that should work in any smartwatches.

Utterly disappointed!

Why is it taking hours to update via Bluetooth?

Although I'm glad to see the new firmware and apps and clock faces, I thought we were going to "be kept informed" about the opening of the app store.  Instead, it just shows up and we all post about it.  How exactly is that being kept informed?

Sorry to sound negative in the middle of this, but again, why is it taking hours?  And if it is going to take hours, why isn't that mentioned up front in the prompts before you start the process so we can then plan to do it overnight instead of taking it off our wrist and stopping the recording of our activity for the day?

Learn from this release.  Improve the process and set expectations better for users at the next releases.  Please.

The update took over an hour and a half using bluetooth then the app said it failed anyway. Used up 25% of the watch battery. Will try again later.

I did the firmware update this morning and this evening it keeps saying it can't sync because the phone Bluetooth is turned off( which it is not). I have gone thru iconic shutdown, hard reset, removing it and trying to pair it back to my phone. Currently just did a factory reset and trying the firmware update via my computer. Not sure what went wrong with it.

I am in Canada and Fitbit pay still doesn’t work for me? Is it just not available in Canada yet or is there something wrong?

Yup, tried three times last night and all failed, once again this morning with the same result. Will try again after my run 😕

@pedrisI gave up on the App Bluetooth update and now using the Fitbit Connect on the PC.. Windows 7..... BUT..... I found if the PC goes to sleep Fitbit Connect has disconnected when you wake the PC...

So I start again.. Fortunately the update picks up where it left off..

I have been near the PC all this time and I'm now up to 3 hours and the Ionic screen is now half way through the last 3 right dots on the Fitbit Icon.

So the alarm bug was fixed. Where is the list of other bugs that were fixed?

Just finished now.... 4 hours with 4 failures... but after each failure it picked up where it failed which is a positive about the update.

After restarting the phone and the Fitbit, syncing was reasonable.

Does this update fixes the music problem?

The ionic takes about 2 hours to sync 50mb of.mp3 files.

That is absurd!

@SunsetRunner I have a strong feeling no other bug was fixed. Never for once did fitbit acknowledge there is problem with sync and notifications. If this was the case, I can't be more disgusted with fitbit. Someone in this thread mentioned they still experience sync problems, I'm going to update mine tonight to test out.

Again, this piece of hardware isn't some cheap China no-brand smartwatch. It is one of the most expensive smartwatch out there in the market, and users should expect it to perform and function like its price.

Utterly disappointed!

My comments on the update:

1. Very happy that the lagginess on the touch screen has been sorted!

2. I'm a google music user. Wish they will get support for this sooner than later.

3. Disappointed that nothing has been done around the hype on their SP02 sensor.

4. Happy for the new watch faces. Hope the app store picks up now.

Regards

This is weird. I don't have my charging cable with me so I can't perform update until I reach home. Now my fitbit app goes into "syncing" with a red download icon. It doesn't appear to be connected anymore. Should I tap on the download red icon now.. even though I don't have the charging cable with me? And why does fitbit design their product in such a way that it requires parts that aren't readily available on the user?

Utterly disappointed!

Hallo, habe gestern Abend das Update durchgeführt, seitdem verliert die IONIC ständig die Verbindung zum Smartphone und die Benachrichtigungen deaktivieren sich laufend selbst.

Asus RT-AC88 router WPA2 personal and WPA personal. Still can't connect my Ionic to wifi unless I strip off all security on my network. I have dozens of other devices that connect without an issue so the problem is the watch. Ironically it connected fine until after the first firmware download.
