Fitbit Update: Fitbit OS2.1 has been released to 100% of users!

Hi all! Smiley Happy

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.1! (Firmware Version: 27.32.10.15)

We've started to roll out this update to 10% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

WHAT’S NEW

Introducing quick replies. Send customized responses to text messages and messages from select messaging apps with your Fitbit watch. Note that this feature is currently only available on watches paired to an Android phone. For more information, see How do I respond to messages with my Fitbit watch?

This release includes other bug fixes and improvements.

Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

I recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic, I can also recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

@MattJ71Yes it is indeed puzzling.

I've done the upgrade a week ago, at first the notification seems to be delayed. But as the days go by, the notification became regular, the Weather sync started to be consistent and even the face watch weather is regular now after a few minutes of leaving the app open but my phone went to sleep.

I suspect there is a strong back-end component to all this. There is one thing I change on my phone though.

Someone suggested disabling aggressive battery management on their phone and the Fitbit app sync much better,

On Windows 10 mobile, I allowed Fitbit to always run in the background. My battery suffered a little but the sync became much better.

Ionic on Vivo Nex, HP Elite X3 and Surface Pro.

I too have found much better sync performance with disabling "battery optimization" with the Ionic and the OnePlus 5T.  However it is still spotty about three times a day and then corrects after turning the Bluetooth off and on again, or restarting either the phone or Ionic.  Overall, it's not a good experience.

@RtshoffHey are you the one who suggested turning off battery optimisation?

I have given up on Live Data. I never had a Weather sync consistently or weather on Watch-face sync throughout the day either.

However, since these are not "Core functionality", I decided to just let it be. Today has been the best day with everything working correctly. I realise some apps like Yelp requires GPS signal to even work so I try to sync Weather outdoors in case GPS is needed, which is pretty lame if you ask me. 🤣

Yes, that was a suggestion I came across elsewhere, specifically applicable to the OnePlus 5T.  I understand that the list of approved phones that Fitbit puts out doesn't include the OnePlus 5T, but I'm pushing forward with it anyway.  Other Fitbit trackers I've had in the past have worked with other OnePlus phones I've had.  The list of Android phones that Fitbit has said work with their trackers doesn't seem well vetted, seems to just be a convenient way to dismiss issues when they arise.

Agreed. It should work, since quick replies work for apps that support in-notification replies on your smartphone, and Gmail works this way.

This prompted me to check the firmware version of my Ionic... and to discover that it hasn't synced since May 9. Now it's stuck in spinny world trying to connect. Will keep trying. (It costs a lot more than I thought to be a beta tester.)

Hi, I received the firmware update a few days ago and recently wanted to install it, but when I click on the firmware update button it shows a loading symbol and returns me back to previous menu after 1-2 seconds. It will simply not load the update page. I tried all the turning on/off of wifi, bluetooth, router restart, being next to my router with everything plugged to charge, restart all devices, nothing works, the page on my phone will simply not load. I'm at a lost, help please :S

I have installed the Frimware update and I still continue to have issues with my FITBIT IONIC.  I purchased it a couple of months ago, when it was connected to my Samsung s8 plus it was working fine.  Once I upgraded to the Samsung s9 plus I have been having problems.  The phone will sync one day and the next day it won't.  I am not able to connect to it through bluetooth to receive notifications. Last week I went to LAS Vegas and the watch would not sync to their time zone for 4 days, as soon as we were leaving it decided to sync, when I got back to Georgia it would not switch back to EST.  I reset the watch back to the factory settings, removed the phone from the app and reinstalled it.  It did not work the 1st time, I tried those steps again which took up over an 1 hour of my time each time and I finally got the watch to reset.  I woke up this morning and it would not sync or connect to my phone again.  I tried the same steps again and it still isn't working.  I have been a fitbit user for over 7 years now and this is the first time I have experienced this.  I really just want to get a refund at this point because I paid $300 for a watch with the $75 extended warranty and the watch has been useless.

Hello since updating my watch I haven’t been able to receive notifications from my iPhone to my ionic watch. I get text messages and app notifications on my phone but they done come though to my watch. I’ve disconnected my Bluetooth and reconnected it, I’ve also reset my notifications but nothing is still coming through. I’ve heard a few people have had the same issue since the update. Notifications come in handy for me as I’m unable to use my phone in work. Please can you let me know if there’s anything I can do to get this active again? Thank you

Hi all,

I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be a dick about this but after the update my Ionic is working perfectly, receive all notifications music and GPS is all good, I've even started receiving the correct sleep patterns over the last week which was the last remaining bug, can't fault it in any way. Admittedly I am only using the Samsung basic message account but Watsap and FB messenger are all good. I'm even using a Samsung S9 which apperently is not suppprted. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones. Sorry again not trying to be a dick.

Samsung S9, Android 8.0,

fitbit 27.32.10.15.

@Hej_D  found something substantial. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Not-receiving-Message-notifications-after-update/m-p/271...

have one unread notification. as soon as another contact sends you something, both notifications are available on the watch (even with quick reply - if your phone supports that).

anyone willing to proof that for Message+ ?

I could already confirm this works for Signal.

This update as with previous two I did since owning my Ionic, went on fine with no issues (installing). This update did not resolve any issues I have been experiencing, but sadly, added a major (for me) issue - now my GPS functions do not work. The Ionic is no longer syncing to GPS, and apps using GPS, such as Running, are no longer recording GPS hits, so the logged run shows just the point I started at and no tracks.

I didn't think it was possible but 2.1 drains my batter faster than 2.0 did.  It was painful enough going from 8+ days on my Garmin to 4 days if I am lucky on the Ionic.  Then 2.0 and I barely got 72 hours.  Now I am not even getting two and a half days.  How inefficient is the code in this thing?

Hey everyone I’ve managed to get the notifications back on my ionic, for anyone that needs help you need to disable your passcode, untick all of your notifications, and completely turn off your mobile device. When you turn it back on go into the app and re-tick everything. Let the phone sync with you watch and you should be able to get notifications again.

I hope this this works for everyone, it’s worked for me 😊

Well this is really bad at this point.  My Ionic was syncing just fine this morning, now nothing.  Already restarted my Ionic, restarted my Android, unpaired and attempted to re-pair the Ionic with the phone, and now my phone can't pair bluetooth to my Ionic!  What in the world is going on here?!}?!

Not sure why this update is taking so stupidly long, but I suggest Fitbit do something about improving the update speed.  Not having access to my watch for 5-6 hours is ridiculous.

After all the problems I had (non responsive Fitbit), it became responsive and I can use it to look at it. But, I can’t use it to swim... Every time I go swimming, the exercise app crashes after Some lengths (sometimes it crashes almost immediately, sometimes after Maybe 8 lengths). Yesterday, I swam 3000 meters, but it registered 150 meters...
And sometimes my watch has to restart then too, while I am swimming. It also restarts sometimes when I am doing nothing. Today I was looking at it and I saw it restart 2 times in 10 minutes.
It’s not funny anymore... I am a swimmer, I bought it to swim and no it’s useless to swim... 🙁
I have a Fitbit Ionic since January 2018. It’s my 4th now, during my warranty of 2 years. I hope this one lasts much longer. Updates are dangerous!
