UPDATE: Fitbit OS 2.0 has been released to 100% of users.

Hi all!

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.0! (Firmware Version: 27.32.4.19)

We've started to roll out this update to 10% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

What’s New

Fitbit Today:

Introducing Fitbit Today, an updated on-device dashboard that keeps you informed about all of your health and fitness data. Receive action-oriented and personalized content with daily and weekly health and fitness stats, historical activity, exercise summaries, and tips and tricks for using the Fitbit platform. Swipe up from the clock face to open the Fitbit Today dashboard.

Ionic users, your daily stats have moved from the Today app to Fitbit Today.

Music:

You can now add Deezer playlists to your Fitbit watch. For more information on setting up your Deezer playlists on Ionic, check out this article

What’s Changed

Fitbit Watch Interface:

We made some updates to the way you interact with your Fitbit watch:

  • To see your notifications, swipe down from the clock face or press and hold the top button.
  • To see your stats and current battery level, swipe up from the clock face.
  • To access music controls, payments, and the shortcuts screen, press and hold the back button.
  • Access your music controls all on one screen.
  • We’ve changed the order of some of the apps on your watch.

To learn more about these changes, open the Tips app on your watch and follow the tutorial.

Instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

I recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

Looking forward to hearing everyone's feedback on the latest release. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

This update seems to be merely cosmetics. Just some new navigation and minor app changes. This while there were many really problematic issues with the previous firmware. Missed opportunity because this update is introducing many new issues related to core functionality.

I have mine more or less working on the previous firmware now. Occasionally, while exercising it crashes. And the music streaming to my bluetooth headset isn't stable and disconnects. So I don't use music, simple.

I will not update to the new firmware. It doesn't seem to solve any issues, and on the contrary it introduces new ones.

I don't understand how an update like this passed any QA?

Fitbit,

It would be appreciated if the GPS and Heart rate could be fixed in the next update. The algorithm the Ionic shows must be based on gessing all the way. Its extremely unaccurate. I explain why:

Yesterdays I was out running 13km for 1h and 5 minutes chosing "Run" as exercise and the Ionic recorded my avarage puls of 110bpm and max puls 135bpm and 419kcal, which is so far off I wont consider the Ionic as a activity watch at all. Not even close!

Today I was in the gym recorded my exercise 1h and 17minutes as "Weights" with average puls of 141bpm and max puls 186bpm and 919Kcal (I was not even close to 130bpm during this workout).

Why is the Ionic so dangerous wrong, and what can Fitbit do about this in order to get the product to work? I cant get any help or educated answers from your support and Im for sure not the only one having issues with this expensive, goodlooking "brick".

What do we do then with this **ahem** firmware upgrade thats rendered swipe right for me useless (doesnt work -as in doesnt swipe right, it just "bounces on the clock screen") and now quickview inaccessible? Abt ready to throw fitbit away and go new garmin. Ridiculous too seems their live chat or call is also pointless as it doesnt do anything but give me an error/webpage not found. Talented bunch of developers fitbit employs.

Donna,Screen Wake (AKA Quick View) and Notifications screen is now reached by a long press of the left button.  You may also have to swipe left or right according to your specific setup.

I'm suffering from the same thing.  I've been trying for a week to update using iPhone 8. This update has rendered my Ionic (which I've only had since Dec 2017) completely useless.  It was working fine BEFORE trying to update. I've tried the update using several different WiFi places only to be told today that if I'm using 5.0 it will only work on 2.40 and to call my ISP to find out how to keep the router on 2.4.  One place actually entered into the installing portion only to quit about 3/4 way.  As of today, Fitbit rep had me factory reset.  Guess what?  Now it won't set up at all and is in the factory reset state.  When I try to set it up, it automatically sends to update and of course that doesn't work. My case is supposed to be 'elevated' to another tech team, which isn't available today.  They're supposed to send me an email within 24 hours with instructions on how to proceed.  I am utterly frustrated as this point!!!!

I'm having issues after I updated my Ionic device with firmware 2.0.  Thereafter, my device keeps on shutting down and restarting by itself every 10 mins or so.  This is also draining my battery life.  What gives?

Hi there,

The active minutes section is not recording the level of active time. it remains 0 and has been such for the past 3 days.

is this a bug/glitch?

I have tried 10 times to get this update.  I am getting frustrated about this.  Originally, I was avoiding to do any update because my S8 had issues with Ionic since the beginning, until finally worked.  Now, this has been a waste of time.  I cannot do it through WIFI because neither from the phone app nor the computer app I can setup the watch WIFI.  I am trying to read all the posts in this threat but this is adding to the frustration!!!!

What has been the solution so far???

I have gotten everything working since my 5 hour update nightmare. As I read all these frustrated ionic owners I think I've finally come up with a solution.

First: quit your job. Updating and re-installing apps will take up most of your time.

Second: go back to school to get a degree in engineering and IT.. You'll need it to understand the intricacies of how Wi-Fi and bluetooth work.

Third and final: take some voice lessons..since you'll probably have to sing to yourself while you workout..  since you couldn't load any songs.

I jest....good luck all

hi there,

tried too but the screen blanked off every time I tried to update.

the solution that worked for me was.

uninstall the app in the phone. go to play store and reinstall the latest fitbit app. during update of watch firmware, do switch off all bluetooth items ie ipad, other phones etc.   The watch bluetooth seems to seek and other apps items will interfere.

setup will begin after this.

it worked for me, hope it will for you.

thanks

I tried to update today at home, which should be over WIFI.  It took about 5 hours to get 50% done, then I eventually restarted the watch since there was no progress in over an hour.  It's working now, but I'm still on 27.31.1.29.  Updates have worked ok for me in the past, but not this one.

I updated to this OS without much issue a week ago and many of the shortcuts are great. Like the shortcut to Payment and Today. I also prefer the behavior now where stats would timeout and return to the Watchface. Although I think there should be an option for people who wants to stay on the Today app to watch the stats.

Just want to add a few tips to help you guys with update issues. If your Ionic has issues after update, it's because the update was NOT successful and you need to redo the update by doing a Factory Reset.

1. Bring your device (Smartphone or Laptop) as near to the WiFi access point as possible to get a strong signal. The Ionic WiFi antenna is much smaller than your mobile device.

2. If you can't update properly on a device (especially older iPhones), use another device. In my testing, a Windows 10 Laptop running the Fitbit app has the most stable Bluetooth Connection, followed by Android devices. I updated successfully via using a Windows Mobile device (on my second try). My iPad Pro fared the worst (never successfully completed an update.)

3. When using Smartphones, try NOT to switch apps and plug them on to Charge to reduce the chance of the smartphone throttling the app or Bluetooth Connection.

4. And just in case, try not to use the Bluetooth connection on your smartphone to play music or connect to other devices while updating.

5. After update, go through the tutorial because there are major (good) changes to the UX. Before you complain about missing features, read the tutorial. I'm very happy with the buttons actually serving a purpose now.

6. After update, if you have issues like apps not opening or tracking is failing. Do a soft-reset first. If the problem persist, go to the Ionic -> Settings -> About and do a Factory Reset. Re-pair and re-do the update if needed.

Ionic on Vivo Nex, HP Elite X3 and Surface Pro.

Has anyone updated and tested that everything works fine? Or is everyone experiencing some sort of issues after updating the latest firmware?

I didn't even bother looking at their new product after being so disgusted with the myriad of problems in the ionic. As I mentioned, my first and last fitbit. Only reason I'm still in this thread is the hope of finding a firmware that solves all problems BECAUSE nobody is buying this buggy product off my hand.

Utterly disappointed!

Prior to this update you could swipe left to right and put the watch into manual mode so it did not turn on unless you press a button. This is useful at night as when you move your arm with the watch it turns on and interrupts sleep as the room is pitch black. Does this feature exist still as I am unable to locate it? If not is it going to be on the next Firmware update?

Thank you

Chris

Mine hasn’t logged sleep since Saturday 3/26. I’ve done everything. Last night I finally did a factory reset. Nope. Still no sleep tracking.
