UPDATE: Fitbit OS 2.0 has been released to 100% of users.

 

Hi all!

 

I am excited to announce the release of Fitbit OS 2.0! (Firmware Version: 27.32.4.19)

 

We've started to roll out this update to 10% of Ionic users. This is a progressive rollout, and all Ionic users can expect to have it within a few weeks. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed. 

 

What’s New

 

Fitbit Today:

 

Introducing Fitbit Today, an updated on-device dashboard that keeps you informed about all of your health and fitness data. Receive action-oriented and personalized content with daily and weekly health and fitness stats, historical activity, exercise summaries, and tips and tricks for using the Fitbit platform. Swipe up from the clock face to open the Fitbit Today dashboard.

 

Ionic users, your daily stats have moved from the Today app to Fitbit Today.

 

Music:

 

You can now add Deezer playlists to your Fitbit watch. For more information on setting up your Deezer playlists on Ionic, check out this article

 

What’s Changed

 

Fitbit Watch Interface:

 

We made some updates to the way you interact with your Fitbit watch:

  • To see your notifications, swipe down from the clock face or press and hold the top button.
  • To see your stats and current battery level, swipe up from the clock face.
  • To access music controls, payments, and the shortcuts screen, press and hold the back button.
  • Access your music controls all on one screen.
  • We’ve changed the order of some of the apps on your watch. 

To learn more about these changes, open the Tips app on your watch and follow the tutorial.

 

Instructions for updating your Ionic can be found here.

 

I recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article

Perhaps the many users who are having a successful experience with the update just don't feel the need to post on here? I mean what reason would they have to? Although most of the replies to this thread are positive, there are probably far more happy Ionic users then you think. So no we aren't all victims of the update. I actually quite like the update.

I have had absolutely no issues with my IONIC, it works well and I am very happy with it. You do have to wonder though with the thousands of IONICs that have been sold all over the world, why there is such a big percentage of people who have issues. Of course there can be faults in any item whatever it is, sometimes things just go wrong, but it would be interesting to know if there is a "bad batch" of the watch out there. There just seems to be too many complaints for it to be just an unlucky problem for someone and it needs to be addressed by the FITBIT company

having used the new update for a week now here is my initial feedback...

 

Pros

  • Sync is working much better, but I still have to unpair and then pair every now and then
  • Heart rate seems more accurate on my walks (it was usually higher than it should be), but still is way under when hiking.  It will show 115 or so while hiking, but jump up to a more accurate 130 when I pause and stop moving.  It also seems to record data longer with fewer -- heart rates
  • I like the Today panel as it contains more data, but I also have this as a con as described below
  • I like what you did with holding the left button to change wake, notifications, and to display the music controls
  • I signed up for Deezer since I get a discount with Cricket Wireless .  It seems to work well although I would still like to see Amazon Music and Audible Books 🙂

Cons

  • My battery life is significantly worse (50% per day).  I even did a hard reset and have rebooted several times.
  • The Today panel is fine but I agree with others on the following...
    1) You have to swipe and can't use a button to bring it up anymore (bring back the app and let us use both?).
    2)  I can't configure what I want to see and where (i.e. steps this hour on top, or customizing the data fields displayed for the last 3 hikes, walks, etc.).
    3) It takes longer to load and that is the only easy way to see the battery life (how about bringing back swipe right since nothing else is using it at the moment).

Overall it is better that it was before, but the battery life is real concern.

@joe3175 Thank you for your reply. Would you mind to read all three links I mentioned above?

It would help you to clear why I am frustrated and A LOT of unlucky users are upsetting.

 

If you did read through that three posts and still insist you are happy with you Ionic.... and we are unlucky user should be humble and get unfair threat from Fitbit .... I am speechless.

 

Enjoy your moment till new firmware update then.... your luck might run out like us : )

I did explain yet they do not understand....

 

They said majority should be happy and be able to update smoooothly lol

I’m thinking it may have a lot to do with the phone we own coz I have iPhone X and all seems to be fine I just hate the new format it sucks really bad.

Komsan- You have misread my post completely!!. I am saying I have no issues with my IONIC and am happy with it. BUT as there are so many people who are having issues with their watch it is time for Fitbit to acknowledge the issue/s and deal with them appropriately. I am saying it is too many complaints for it to be an unlucky purchase by someone. Maybe I did not make myself clear enough for you, but I am actually on the side of those who are having so many problems and seemingly getting nowhere with the FITBIT company.

Why can't you get a refund from the place you purchased the watch from? I know there is a 45 day return policy with fitbit, but I thought that was more to do with change of mind. Surely the shop you purchased from will honour the 12 month warranty. Especially given there is a fault with your watch.

Hello,

 

after Firmware Update on the IONIC (27.32.4.19) the IONIC "crashed" if i will sync over Bluetooth.

Screen is blank, and i can only restart, when i press all buttons longer 5 sec.

Ever since I downloaded this firmware update my Ionic is only tracking about half the steps I take and not auto recognizing any excercises. I have contacted support and gone through several restarts and a factory reset amd it STILL isn't tracking properly. I hope you have a fix in place rolling out in the next few days!!!!

I don't know of any electronics device that you can return or obtain warranty service without a receipt. 

The store you purchased it from is unable or unwilling to issue you a receipt? That in itself seems a red flag.

A 14K step day yesterday is not syncing with anything, phone, tablet. I
don't have firmware update installed so I don't brick my Ionic again. What
is going on? NO communication coming from Fitbit I have been a Flex to a
Surge to an Ionic user & loyalist. Frustrating not getting any exercise
tracking and now no step syncing, come on!!

Hey everyone! I truly appreciate all the details that each of you have mentioned as well for the solutions that you've shared in order to help others in the Community. 

 

There are some things that you need to consider when updating the firmware version, you need to have a good internet connection and since the process is taking some time, it can drain your battery and this is why your Ionic should be connected to the charger. You can also try using your computer if you've already tried with your mobile device. 

 

In case you keep having issues, you can try the steps mentioned here Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

 

If you've already updated it and you're getting the calibration message, our team is aware of this issue and investigating. At the moment, we ask you to just ignore it as this shouldn't affect the functionality of your watch. You can learn more  about it by checking the main thread Ionic calibration message

 

@Nicky89 I just wanted to clarify that the firmware version that you should have is  27.32.4.19. I noticed you mentioned that it wasn't clear as the numbers changed in every version, you can always double check it in the main article What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update?. Your comments are appreciated. 

 

@Falzy I don't have any information about when this will be a feature. However, you may want to vote for this idea Amazon Music, those are viewed by our engineers and developers.

 My watch was updated recently and the swipe right from clockface summary function disappeared. THE new swipe up from clockface to TODAY continually fails to record distance and stops at <.05 miles. This new update makes the watch useless for my purpose! A 13 mile ride shows .036 miles on the updated  watch. However on the app it works perfectly?

I really don't appreciate being told to just ignore the calibration
message. Every time it vibrates I get excited to see my messages but then
immediately disappointed to see this callibration message again and again
every day. THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY NOW. ..or provide an option to
downgrade!!!

As soon as I downloaded the firmware update on my Ionic it is only tracking about half of my steps. I spent an hour troubleshooting with support, restarting, then testing, then restarting and testing again, and finally a factory reset. It still didn't track properly. Then I received an email telling me to restart and test 3 more times. I did 4 tests just for laughs and it is STILL only tracking half of my steps. I have had nothing but problems with my Ionic since I received it. I'm thinking I wasted my money and I need to return it now while I can and get a Garmin.
