Ionic GPS Biking Auto Pause versus Manual Pause

ANSWERED

I have the Blaze and use for bicyling connected to my Iphone for GPS. My big complaint is that when I stop, I sometimes forget to pause and then restart. Other Apps, like Mapmyride, stop automatically and then restart when you are riding. Will the Ionic have this feature??? Its important.

Thanks in advance for any assistance...

Autopause works perfectly, albeit, too perfectly... sometimes difficult mountain bike terrain forces you to an almost standstill moment. The autopause and vibration of it happening can be a little bit of a distraction so I turned it off.

Thanks... appreciate it.... I do mostly hybrid and road...

I had this also. Goes on autopause just to perfect. Its a bit too accurate. Standing still the pause went on and off three times just by moving my arm.

But at least it works!;-)

I’d like it to as well maybe this is a setting buried somewhere as my Charge HR does NOT count biking as steps! (It does count elliptical)

By default the Ionic appears NOT to count it as well.

Yeah.. its difficult to have steps and miles counted for walking and biking at the same time... I get that...

I get good results for the bike ride- its pretty accurate for miles, heart rate, calories etc... I probably am going to upgrade do Ionic from Blaze because of the auto stop. Plus my battery is starting to die on my Blaze... lucky to get a day or more...

Whats everyone else think about that when using the Blaze for exercising (biking and walking)

I still use a bike computer and chest strap.

I've tried Surge, Blaze, and Apple Watch, all of them are *not* accurate for heart rate on outdoor rides. They generally follow HR, sometimes closely, but they wander a lot. The Ionic reviews on DCRainmaker and Wareable.com show Ionic sometimes struggles on HR accuracy. If you think HR is "good enough" then save money and buy a Charge 2. The primary difference between Charge 2 / Blaze / Ionic is that Ionic has built-in GPS. There are enough restrictions on apps, and Ionic hardware, that I wouldn't decide to buy Ionic on hopes some app will fix missing features. Of course there will be apps for simple things like watch faces and Fitbit's stopwatch app not having a real lap function.

The other reason for using a bike computer - its much easier and safer to glance down at handlebars for a quick update on HR, current time, map, distance to next turn, distance, speed, calories, power, time on bike, current temperature, elevation, current interval goal, and training load. To name just a few.

I went for a ride yesterday and the auto pause worked great for me.  It was a couple of seconds behind my Garmin but it worked! Probably has something to do with the GPS.  I'm going to do another separate post on the HR accuracy as i'm not sure much has improved from my Surge or my Blaze.

Auto pause and manual pause don't work 100% correctly.

When I stopped for a coffee break, it still kept tracking even though I had paused.

Also the app keeps showing me moving even though the speed is zero when you move the mouse across the graphs.
