Ionic Swimming/Surfing GPS logged on Maps

Hi guys,

So I went surfing recently and my ionic automatically recognized that I was "swimming" and logged my exercise and even plotted my route in the ocean on a map. I wasn't aware that the watch did this for swimming. I haven't been able to figure out how to do it again and I'd love to do it more often. Has anyone else experienced this?

@Fionán Welcome to the Community. Thanks for the details mentioned.

It's pretty weird that you're seeing this on your watch. Your surfing activity shouldn't be tracked with GPS or recognized as a swimming activity, while you were surfing.

If you would like to track your surfing activity, you may want to use the workout option on your watch. Learn more about it by checking this article: How do I track my activity with my Fitbit device?

I'll be around if you have any additional questions.

Thanks for the reply Silvia, I understand that it's not supposed too happen. But I'd like it to continue, do you know what activity I could select that it might log it in the same way?

@Fionán Thanks for getting back. I appreciate the screenshot shared.

The only workouts that will track your GPS route are run, walk, bike and hike. You could try using one of these to track your route but I don't think the data that you'll receive will be accurate at all because you're not performing the activity that you'll be selecting.

If you would like that Fitbit could add surfing in the future, you may want to post your idea in our Feature Suggestion board, those ideas are reviewed by our team and the status will change based in Fitbit's plans.
